List of famous Irish gangsters in America, with photos and even a few mug shots of the Irish mobsters. From bootleggers to syndicate bosses, the most infamous gangsters from Ireland represent some of the worst criminals in history. These Irish mob bosses and enforcers were on the wrong side of the law for years, and now they're compiled into an infamous Irish mobsters list.
Who are the worst Irish mobsters? These are the notorious godfathers – the top crime bosses from the Irish mob and associated crime syndicates, listed from earliest to most recent. Who are the most infamous Irish mobsters in U.S. history? Narrowing down a list isn't easy. From Chicago to Boston to Philadelphia, Irish mobsters have controlled everything from bootlegging (during Prohibition years) to horse racing, and everything in-between.
This list of gangsters includes all of the top Irish mobsters in U.S. crime history. From Bulger to Spillane, check out this list of infamous Irish mob members and learn how these mob kings rose to infamy.
The Most Infamous Irish Mobsters of All Time,
Dean O'Banion
Dean O'Banion (sometimes referred to as Dion O'Banion) was a native of Chicago's North Side neighborhood and, during the beginning of the Prohibition era, united with Italian South Side mobsters (including boss 'Papa' Johnny Torrio and his associate, Al Capone), to ramp up their bootlegging operations and avoid turf battles. In 1924, O'Banion decided to break with his former partners, and unsuccessfully attempted to frame Torrio for murder, leading to a bloody struggle for dominance of North Side bootlegging.
In November of 1924, O'Banion was shot and killed while working in his flower shop. The murder started a gruesome 5-year Chicago gang war that culminated in the infamous St. Valentine's Day Massacre in 1929.
O'Banion was the basis for the character played by Jimmy Cagney in the 1931 film The Public Enemy.
Howie Winter
Winter got his start in organized crime under the tutelage of gang leader Buddy McLean in Somerville, Massachusetts. After McLean's death in 1966 outside the Tap Royal social club, Winter took over for him. When Winter was arrested in 1979 for fixing horse races, leadership of the gang was passed down to James "Whitey" Bulger. Winter was released in 1987, but jailed again in 1993 for dealing cocaine (At the time, he was offered a deal in exchange for snitching on Bulger. Winter refused).
Winter was again released from prison in 2003, and currently lives in Massachusetts.
John Patrick Looney
A surprisingly educated and sophisticated gangland figure, John Patrick Looney was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1889, was active in Democratic Party politics, and had started his own newspaper – the Rock Island News of Rock Island, Illinois – in 1905. He would go on to use the publication to extort powerful local residents (threatening to publish unflattering stories unless he received a payoff) and to attack other personal enemies. Looney eventually sold his stake in the paper in 1908, though he continued to harass and threaten the purchaser – W.W. Wilmerton – who had hoped to dismantle it (He even got into a gunfight with Wilmerton at one point during which Looney was wounded).
During and following his tenure at the Rock Island News, Looney got involved in gambling and prostitution in addition to his extortion ring. Once Prohibition became the law of the land, he extended his enterprise into the protection racket as well, offering cover for law violators.
In 1922, his fortunes changed after Looney allegedly killed William Gabel, a man who had provided evidence against Looney to Prohibition agents. In retaliation, Looney's son was murdered by rivals, and police raids shut down his speakeasies and brothels. Though he fled, first to Canada and then New Mexico, Looney was eventually apprehended, convicted of Gabel's murder as well as "conspiracy to protect gambling, prostitution and illicit liquor traffic" and sentenced to 14 years in prison. He died in 1947 in a tuberculosis sanitarium.
Looney is the inspiration for Paul Newman's character, John Rooney, in the Oscar-winning 2002 movie Road to Perdition. The character was originally named "John Looney" in Max Allan Collins' graphic novel of the same name.
Mickey Spillane
Mickey Spillane came to power as an Irish mobster in the 1960s and 1970s. Spillane took over from Eddie McGrath, running rackets throughout Hell's Kitchen and well beyond. He was a night club owner and a numbers guy. He battled to keep his position as boss, with challenges coming from violent Irish mobsters who wanted nothing more than to take over. Among them: James 'Jimmy' Coonan, who wanted revenge on Spillane for kidnapping his accountant father.
Spillane was said to be involved in the so-called "snatch" racket – kidnapping big businessmen in the area and then demanding ransom from other mob groups. Mickey Spillane was murdered in May of 1977, clearing the way for a whole new kind of gangster to emerge.
Owney 'The Killer' Madden
Owney Madden was the boss of 'The Westies,' a group that ruled supreme over Hell's Kitchen – and eventually controlled a large part of Manhattan. Madden was much more than a mere Irish street gang mobster and bootlegger; he controlled an interest in Harlem's famed Cotton Club, among other things. Remember Francis Ford Coppola's film The Cotton Club? The crime drama featured actor Bob Hoskins as Madden.
Madden was heavily involved in all aspects of Irish mob activity, but in 1932, he was implicated in the murder of mobster Vincent 'Mad Dog' Coll, spent a year behind bars and, afterward, retired to Arkansas to live out his golden years.
James 'Buddy' McLean
McLean is best-known as the founder and original leader of the 'Winter Hill Gang' of Somerville, Massachusetts. The gang had started in 1955, when McLean attracted compatriots due to his infamy as a tough street fighter. Originally, Winter Hill members focused their efforts on the numbers racket, loansharking, and hijacking trucks.
McLean became embroiled in a rivalry with another group of mobsters from nearby Charlestown, particularly relating to the murder of George McLaughlin. In October of 1961, he shot and killed McLaughlin's brother, Bernie, in the streets of Charlestown in front of many witnesses, but was acquitted of all charges (His alleged accomplice in the crime was a man named Alex Petricone, who became an actor and changed his name to Alex Rocco).
McLean was killed in 1966 outside the Tap Royal Social Club (a known hangout of the Winter Hill Gang) by Steve and Cornelius Hughes. He was succeeded as leader by Howie Winter.
James 'Big Jim' O'Leary
Big Jim O'Leary was a powerful Irish mob boss in Chicago for over a decade, controlling gambling on the city's South Side with an iron fist.
His criminal career started as a teenager, when O'Leary worked for bookies in Long Beach, Indiana. He later began operating his own illegal gambling ring on the steamship The City of Traverse on Lake Michigan. Both of these early operations failed to gain traction, largely because of O'Leary's refusal to pay off local police. He only found financial success following the death of Chicago crime lord Michael Cassius MacDonald, which led to O'Leary's assuming control of gambling in Chicago's South Side in the 1890's.
And yes, if the O'Leary/Chicago connection seems familiar, it should: Big Jim's parents, Patrick and Catherine O'Leary, owned the barn where the infamous Great Chicago Fire in 1871 is thought to have started. Though it's never been proven, their cow was supposedly the arsonist responsible.
Edward J. 'Eddie' McGrath
Eddie McGrath took the reins of 'The Westies' when Owney Madden retired, controlling the Irish mob in New York's Hell's Kitchen in the 1940s and 1950s.
McGrath was a union guy and worked as an organizer for the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) along the Hell's Kitchen waterfront. McGrath eventually retired to Florida (where else?) in 1959. His successor, Mickey Spillane, went on to become one of the most notorious Irish mobsters in U.S. history.
Edward 'Eddie the Butcher' Cummiskey
A fixture in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood in the 1960s, Eddie Cummiskey gained attention first as an associate of Mickey Spillane. A brutal man who had gained knowledge of butchery while in prison in upstate New York, Cummiskey became an integral part of Spillane's operation. (He's credited with developing the practice of butchering murder victims and disposing of their remains in the Hudson River, an iconic image of New York gangster-dom.)
Cummiskey and Spillane split in the 1970s after Cummiskey took a young James Coonan under his wing. Nonetheless, Cummiskey was killed in 1976 by Joseph "Mad Dog" Sullivan during a purge of Spillane's close associates ordered by Anthony "Fat Tony" Salerno.
George 'Bugs' Moran
'Bugs' Moran was a gangster during the Prohibition era in Chicago. After embarking on a criminal career as a teenager, he gained a reputation as a lunatic with a ferocious temper, earning the nickname 'Bugs' (which at the time, was slang for "crazy"). Before the age of 21, he had already been incarcerated three times.
During Prohibition, Moran found his own bootlegging operation in direct competition with the Chicago "Italian" family set up by Al Capone, triggering a turf war (and lifelong rivalry) between the two men. Their back-and-forth series of attacks and retaliations lasted through the rest of the Prohibition era, and led Moran to popularize the technique of driving by Capone's properties and peppering them with gunfire, an iconic image of organized crime from the era and the inspiration behind the crime of "drive-by shooting."
Moran was convicted of robbing a bank messenger in Ohio in 1946, and spent most of the remainder of his life in prison. He died destitute in 1957, mere weeks after beginning a new prison sentence for bank robbery.

List of serial killers who served in the military. Who are some serial killers who have been in the military? This is a list of serial killers with known military backgrounds. It's difficult to define characteristics that meet every serial killer's profile. Though some may have had excellent careers in the military profession, others performed less than satisfactory and were discharged within a short period of time.
Who are some serial killers who performed well in the military? Robert Lee Yates, for example, had a long military career. Charles Whitman earned many honors during his military career, and Timothy McVeigh loved military service. Other serial killers who did not do well in the military include Dennis Rader whose career was described as "unremarkable" and Dean Corll who outwardly hated military service. Then there's Charles Ng who was sentenced to 14 years in military prison for stealing weaponry and attempted desertation.
There are also other serial killers who were discharged from the military for personality disorders and could not move up in the ranks. Jeffrey Dahmer was discharged from the military when his performance began to suffer due to his alcoholism. Randy Steven Kraft was discharged after disclosing his sexuality.
This is a list of serial killers who where in the military service.
22 Serial Killers Who Served in the Military,
Andrei Chikatilo
Andrei Chikatilo was a Russian Soviet serial killer whose victim count includes a minimum of 52 women and children from 1978 to 1990 before he was arrested and confessed to a total of 56 murders and tried for 53 killings in 1992. He was convicted and sentenced to death and executed in 1994. Chikatilo was drafted into the Soviet Army in 1957 where he worked in the communications unit in Berlin for his compulsory military service until 1960. He also joined the Communist party and had an unblemished military record.
David Berkowitz
David Berkowitz was a New York City serial killer who was arrested in 1977 for a series of shooting attacks with a .44 caliber revolver. In more than a year, Berkowitz murdered six victims and wounded seven others while terrorizing New York City with acts of arson. Prior to his killing spree, an eighteen-year-old Berkowitz enlisted in the US Army in 1971 and was honorably discharged after serving in the US and South Korea.
Dean Corll
What can be creepier than a serial killer known as the Candy Man? From 1970 to 1973 before he was murdered himself, Corll murdered at least 28 boys whom he abducted, raped and tortured. Corll's family owned a candy factory in Texas where he worked as a young boy and eventually became the vice president. Corll was also drafted in the US Army in 1964 where he trained as a radio repairman. Though Corll's military record was pristine, he reportedly hated military service and applied for a hardship discharge on the basis of being needed within his family's candy business. He was granted an honorable discharge after 10 months of service in 1965.
Dennis Nilsen
Often described as the "British Jeffrey Dahmer," Dennis Nilsen was a serial killer in London who committed the murders of 15 young men from 1978 to 1983 before he was arrested and charged with six counts of murder and two of attempted murder. Prior to his killing spree, Nilsen joined the British Army and enlisted in the Army Catering Corps where he became a cook and served for 11 years. He earned a General Service Medal before he was discharged, at his own request, in 1972.
Dennis Rader
From 1970 to 1990, Dennis Rader terrorized the Wichita, Kansas area until he was finally arrested and revealed in 2005. Rader seemed to be an average married father of two who worked for ADT Security Services. In 1966 Rader joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Alabama before being sent to Okinawa and then mainland Japan until the end of his service in 1970. His military record has been described as "unremarkable." Rader is currently serving 10 life sentences in a Kansas prison.
Gary Ridgway
Believed to have murdered at least 71 victims who were mostly women and prostitutes in the late '90s. He was convicted of 49 murders and is serving a life prison sentence in Washington. Prior to his killing spree, Ridgeway joined the Navy and was sent to Vietnam where he served on a supply ship.
Jeffrey Dahmer
Murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991, before he was convicted of 15 of the murders and sentenced to life in prison in 1992.
Jeffrey Dahmer was an alcoholic who dropped out of college and, at his father's urging, enlisted in the U.S. Army. He trained as a medical specialist and was deployed to Germany in 1979. He was discharged from the military in 1981 after his performance suffered due to his alcoholism.
Leonard Lake
Lake served as a Marine in Vietnam, though as a radio operator on non-combatant duty. He was medically discharged in 1971 after psychiatric treatment. Together with serial killer Charles Ng, Lake committed 11 to 25 murders before he was apprehended. Lake ended his life with a cyanide pill after authorities arrested him for a firearms offense.
Randy Steven Kraft
Known as the "Freeway Killer," Kraft was convicted of murdering 16 victims from 1972 and 1983. He is currently on death row in a California prison. After college, Kraft joined the U.S. Air Force and was based in southern California where he supervised the painting of test planes and eventually rose to the rank of Airman First Class. He was discharged in 1969 after he admitted his homosexuality, though under "medical" grounds.
Timothy McVeigh
Perhaps most notorious for his military career, Timothy McVeigh was convicted of the Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people and wounded more than 600 others. He was sentenced to death by legal injection in 2001. McVeigh was highly interested in firearms and weaponry and graduated from the U.S. Army Infantry School. He served in the U.S. Army and was a decorated soldier who served in the Gulf War and Operation Desert Storm. He was discharged in 1991 after his failure to join the United States Army Special Forces due to his unsuitable psychological profile.

Some serial killers are given a nickname by the press, while others give themselves an alias. From "The Butcher of Rostov" to "Doctor Death," these men and women have all committed horrible killings.
We expect the judicial system to incarcerate criminals like those on this list, yet often the suspect is never actually caught or is freed after just a few years of imprisonment. Some of these nicknamed serial killers were only suspected, but never convicted.
This list includes basic information on these serial killers, such as their real names, nicknames, associated murder weapons, number of victims, and information about the aftermath of their detainment or sentencing. Some of these serial killers have been released from prison, let out on parole, or have even escaped from imprisonment and are currently on the loose.
No matter how these dangerous killers got their nicknames, they all committed some truly horrible crimes, gruesome enough to earn them a place in the pop culture lexicon.
42 Dangerous Serial Killers Who Had Nicknames,
Andrei Chikatilo
Nickname: The Butcher of Rostov
Chikatilo was a Soviet serial killer who committed the sexual assault, murder, and mutilation of at least 52 women and children in Russia between 1978 and 1990. Believing he was the killer, police carried out surveillance on Chikatilo which eventually provided adequate grounds for an arrest.
He confessed to a total of 56 murders and was tried for 53 of the killings in April 1992. Victims' relatives demanded that authorities release him so they could kill him themselves. However, he was convicted and sentenced to death for 52 of the murders in October 1992. He was subsequently executed by firing squad in February 1994.
David Berkowitz
Nicknames: Son of Sam, the .44 Caliber Killer
David Berkowitz carried out a series of shootings in the summer of 1976. Using a .44 caliber Bulldog revolver, he shot 6 people dead and wounded 7 others. Berkowitz sent a series of taunting letters to police and the press promising further shootings, terrorizing the people of New York City.
Berkowitz was captured in August 1977 and confessed to all of the killings. He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for each murder, to be served consecutively and is unlikely to ever be released.
Dennis Nilsen
Nicknames: Muswell Hill Murderer, Kindly Killer
The British equivalent of Jeffrey Dahmer, Nilsen was a homosexual killer who murdered 15 gay men in his home in London, England between 1978 and 1983. He kept his victims’ bodies before dissecting their remains and disposing of their bodies by burning or flushing the remains down the toilet. This led to his capture, when human flesh was discovered in his sewage system.
Nilsen was convicted in 1983 of six counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He remains imprisoned at Full Sutton maximum security prison in Yorkshire, England, without the chance of release.
Dennis Rader
Nickname: Bind, Torture, Kill (BTK)
Dennis Raider murdered 10 people in Wichita, Kansas between 1974 and 1991. Obsessed with notoriety, Raider sent taunting letters to police under his nickname. He stalked his victims before breaking into their homes, then bound their limbs before strangling them.
After disappearing in 1988, BTK remerged 2005 when he sent a floppy disc to the press, which was to be his downfall. Tracing him via the floppy disc, Rader was arrested, charged, and immediately confessed. He is serving 10 consecutive life sentences with an earliest possible release date of February 26, 2180.
Fritz Haarmann
Nickname: The Butcher from Hanover
Fritz Haarmann, an unassuming and sympathetic-looking man, used his friendly manner to serve him well as both a police informant and a sexual sadist. Over six years he murdered at least 24 vagrants and male prostitutes - killings he considered an act of love. Haarman claimed he only wanted to bring peace to his victims and had a strict preference for boys he found handsome.
It all came to an end when the discarded skulls of his victims began washing up on the shore of the river Leine in Germany. In 1925, while in prison awaiting his execution (by beheading), he was shown a photo of a missing boy whom the police believed Haarmann had killed. After one look at the ugly boy’s picture he scoffed at the idea of killing such an ungainly kid.
Gary Ridgway
Nickname: The Green River Killer
Ridgway was one of the United States's most prolific serial killers. He was arrested in 2001 for 4 murders, though he confessed to killing at least 70 women in Washington State throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
He avoided the death penalty by providing detailed confessions and leading police to the dumping sites of his victims, five of whom he dumped in the Green River leading to the press giving him his nickname. He was convicted of 49 murders and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.
Richard Ramirez
Nickname: Night Stalker
Ricardo Leyva "Richard" Muñoz Ramírez was an American serial killer and Satan worshipper who terrorized Los Angeles between 1984 and 1985. Ramirez broke into the homes of many of his victims, shooting, stabbing, raping, and mutilating his victims who ranged from a 9-year-old girl and a married couple in their late sixties. Notably, he smeared pentagrams on the walls of the crime scenes.
Captured in 1985, Ramirez was sentenced to death and remained on California’s death row for 23 years until he died in his cell in June 2013.
Ted Bundy
Nickname: Lady Killer
One of the most widely known murderers of the 20th century, Ted Bundy was an American serial killer and rapist who kidnapped or overpowered numerous young women and girls during the 1970s. Bundy typically approached his female victims in a public place and led them to secluded areas where he would sexually assault and kill them. He decapitated at least 12 victims and kept the severed heads in his apartment as trophies.
Repeatedly captured, he twice managed to escape from police and court houses before going on to commit three further killings. Convicted of multiple murders he was sentenced to death in 1980. He was executed by the electric chair in 1989.
Joe Metheny
Nickname: The Cannibal Killer
Beginning in 1976, at the age of 21, Metheny would murder his victims and bury their bodies, sometimes stripping them for meat he would claim to use at his roadside open-pit food stand. The Cannibal Killer was said to have viewed his victims as meat rather than people and said that people couldn't tell the difference between the human meat and the pork he mixed it in with.
Metheny was caught in 1996 and later sentenced to death for the murders of three women (though he confessed to stabbing or strangling a total of four women and three men), a ruling that would be overturned to a life sentence in 2000.
Source
Lonnie David Franklin, Jr.
Nickname: The Grim Sleeper
Franklin was alleged to have murdered a number of women in South Central Los Angeles, then disappeared for 13 years, earning him the nickname "the Grim Sleeper." He started killing again, and police were able to track him down using DNA technology that didn't exist when his spree began. He was found guilty of ten murders in 2016, and is a suspect in at least 20 more.

People arrested for dumb social media posts kind of had it coming to them. From the teens who jokingly threaten lives on Twitter to those who took to Facebook to organize full-scale riots, all of these people have one thing in common: each were arrested for a common-sense-bending social media post.
In our world where Snapchats, Instagrams, Facebook posts, and Tweets spread information instantly, it's entirely too easy for those who are dumb enough to put their death threats and otherwise unclean thoughts on the web for all to see. Unfortunately for them, social media is also a place where law enforcement monitors activity to catch just these kind of threats.
So between the Dutch teen who jokingly tweeted a threat to American Airlines, to the sports fan who threatened to shoot his favorite British diver after he didn't bring home a medal at the 2012 Olympics, to the Los Angeles man who asked for retweets to take out some innocent victims with his sniper rifle, there is not shortage of stories about dumb things posted on social media that led to arrests - sometimes, even years in prison.
Folks, the next time you make a social media post, be it about your excitement for a concert or your plans for your next vacation, take a moment to think before you press send. That moment of clarity might just keep you out of jail.
People Arrested for Dumb Social Media Posts,
Dutch Girl Arrested for American Airlines Threat
"Hello my name's Ibrahim and I'm from Afghanistan. I'm part of Al Qaida and on June 1st I'm going to do something really big bye." was the tweet sent by 14-year-old Sarah, @QueenDemetriax_ on Twitter, in April 2014, supposedly as a joke. The folks over at @AmericanAir however were not laughing and quickly responded by saying, "@QueenDemetriax_ Sarah, we take these threats very seriously. Your IP address and details will be forwarded to security and the FBI."
What followed, before the account was suspended, was the complete implosion of the so-called joke and an insane freak out by the Dutch teen. After pleading that she's "just a girl" and vowing not to tell her parents about her momentary lapse in sanity, Sarah later turned herself into police where she was charged with posting a false or alarming announcement.
Man Tweets Robin Hood Airport Bomb Threat
In the "you're old enough to know better" category, back in May 2010, then-26-year-old Paul Chambers tweeted about his intention to blow Robin Hood Airport "sky high" if his upcoming flight at the British airport was late. What he didn't account for was the chance that he'd miss said flight because he'd be arrested for that tweet two days before his scheduled departure.
Claiming the tweet was an "innocuous hyperbole," Chambers fought the legal charges, which included sending an offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing message over a public telecommunications network, and lost, something that cost him 1,000 pounds and his job at a car distribution firm. His whining continued on Twitter with tweets talking about how this punishment does not fit the "crime" and complaining that this has jeopardized his career. Clearly, he learned nothing from the incident.
American Tourists Carve Initials Into Coliseum So They Can Take a Selfie
Oh, the things done in the name of Instagram.
Two American girls, aged 21 and 25, broke off from their tour group while on vacation in Rome, Italy and decided to use a coin to carve their initials into the walls of a structure that was built just slightly more than 2000 years before the dawn of social media.
Other tourists in the historic landmark reported the vandalism to guards and the pair were arrested for aggravated damage to a building of historical and artistic interest. The girls could see a fine of up to 20,000 Euros as a similar fine was imposed upon a Russian tourist who vandalized the structure about a year before.
No word on how many likes the selfie received.

Teen Jailed for Kindergarten Shooting "Sarcasm"
Oh, those gamers, they get so heated when they battle across the Internet, so much so that in February 2013, when 18-year-old Justin Carter was insulted by a League of Legends gamer, he posted some fighting words back of his own.
"I think Ima shoot up a kindergarten / And watch the blood of the innocent rain down / And eat the beating heart of one of them" was what Carter posted, and just as anyone with half a brain would expect, he was soon arrested. Carter claimed that his messages were "sarcastic," even using the fact that he also typed "lol" and "jk" as his defense; authorities didn't agree.
Teen Sends Murder Scene Selfie Via Snapchat
Snapchatting a selfie with you and your victim is the perfect way to share a crime scene photo, right? Seven seconds of revelry and then the evidence disappears. Until the person on the receiving end snaps a screen shot with your user name on full display, of course.
Maxwell Marion Morton (no relation to Matron Mama) was charged with first-degree murder in Pennsylvania after he sent a Snapchat of himself and his victim (16-year-old Ryan Mangan) to several people, one of whom took a screenshot of the (perhaps) unintentional confession.

Man Repeatedly Tweets About Assassinating President Obama
There are many things that would really be common sense that would be really, really bad to tweet about. Assassinating the president lands squarely in that category. So it should be no surprise that in September 2012, when 21-year-old Donte Jamar Sims posted a series of tweets talking about killing President Barack Obama with "that Lee Harvey Oswald swagg" and an "Assault (sic) Rifle at Barack's Forehead," he was swiftly arrested.
While Sims reportedly was smiling when reading his tweets aloud to the Secret Service, who knocked on his door just a few days later, he later apologized for his stupidity. That apology came up just a wee bit short though as he was later sentenced to six months in prison for knowingly and willfully making a threat to take the life of the president.
Sick Jokes About Missing Kids Land Teen in Prison
Taking sick jokes to a whole new and very much criminal level, meet Matthew Woods. This British teen had the brilliance to post jokes on Facebook stating "I woke up this morning in the back of a transit van with two beautiful little girls, I found April in a hopeless place." and "Who in their right mind would abduct a ginger kid?"
Now out of context, these might not seem something that would land him behind bars, but considering there were two little girls missing at the time, a highly covered story by the news media, no one was laughing at his comments. Woods, who claimed a defense of intoxication, spent three months in the pokey on charges of sending by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive.
Twitter Timebomb Mention Pulls Teen from Pink Concert
When you're excited about attending a concert and want to express that on social media, it might be wise to step back and think before you tweet. An Aussie teen learned that lesson the hard way in July 2013, when he posted on Twitter this lapse of judgement, "@Pink I'm ready with my Bomb. Time to blow up #RodLaverArena. Bitch."
Though the kid was just referencing Pink's song "Timebomb," security at the concert rightfully treated the message like an actual threat and nabbed him when he arrived at the Melbourne arena. The kid was arrested, and his father had to angrily drive three hours to help sort things out. Public nuisance charges were filed and the kid missed out on the concert that got him so excited in the first place. Not a good night for anyone involved!
Teen Doesn't "Get Away With It Like Zimmerman"
Lots of people were upset when George Zimmerman was found not guilty of the murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in July 2013. Just one however, went to Twitter to threaten mass murder because of it. 15-year-old "Mark" was that one.
The teen posted, "If Zimmmerman free imma shoot everybody in Zion causing a mass homicide, and ill get away wit it just like Zimmerman," just before the verdict was announced. Though it was quickly deleted, police got wind of the threat and pulled "Mark" into the station for questioning. The good news is that the cops determined that he was no threat and had no means of carrying out an act of that kind and let him off with a Class 4 felony charge, disorderly conduct.
Escaped Prisoner Gets Caught at Mexican Resort
A fugitive who escaped from the Payette County jail in Idaho was arrested by U.S. marshals after he posted his whereabouts on Instagram. They nabbed Nicholas Grove, who escaped by scaling a fence in 2014, in Tulum, Mexico, thanks in large part to the selfies he posted at a resort.
"Social media certainly played a role originally because this particular individual bragged about his escape on Facebook," Marshal Brian Underwood said. It's a good lesson from criminals and non-criminals alike: Keep your vacation photos to yourself.

Just the thought of a person murdering in cold blood and getting away with it can send chills to the very innards of your soul. The victims, unavenged, and the killer still at large, ready to terrorize at a moment's notice, is simply frightening.
The murder mysteries on this list are some of the most brutal killings in history and have yet to be solved. What are the most famous unsolved murder cases? This list has them all.
In some of these cases, people were charged with murder only to be acquitted from a lack of evidence. In others, police didn't have any suspects or couldn't identify the victim.
This list features the most famous unsolved murders from all over the world, as well as unique information about each victim and any suspects who were named.
The Most Famous Unsolved Murders,
Amber Hagerman
Amber Rene Hagerman was nine years old when she was abducted and murdered while riding her bicycle in an abandoned grocery store parking lot near to her grandparents' home in Arlington, Texas on January 13, 1996. No suspects were ever identified. Police responded to the area after an anonymous 911 call, claiming that a child was screaming and a man in a truck was kidnapping her.
Four days after her abduction, Amber’s body was found with her throat cut in a drainage ditch. Police never released whether there was any evidence of sexual assault.
In the past few years, a witness finally stepped forward, claiming to have seen the abduction. He told police he saw a man in a black truck, grabbed Amber from her bike and threw her into the truck, and sped away.
While Amber’s killer has yet to be caught, her legacy remains as her murder led to the development of the AMBER Alert system. The system has helped save over 500 abducted or missing children since its inception in the U.S. and several foreign countries.
Bob Crane
1960s sitcom star Bob Crane from "Hogan’s Heroes" was discovered in his apartment in 1978 in Scottsdale, Arizona after he had been bludgeoned to death in his bed with a camera tripod. The beating was so brutal that police could hardly recognize him.
The main suspect, John Carpenter, was a friend of Crane's who spent a lot of time together, going to strip clubs and geeking out on video equipment. There was no weapon or witnesses to the murder, making it difficult to make any formal accusations.
The case was reopened in 1990 after an overlooked photo of human body tissue was found in Carpenter's car resurfaced. Carpenter was arrested and tried for first-degree murder, but the case was later acquitted after evidence was found inconclusive.
Georgette Bauerdorf
Georgette Bauerdorf, a well-known heiress to an oil fortune, was 20 years old when she was murdered in her home in Los Angeles in 1944. It is believed that a man was lying in wait for her in her apartment. Police found fingerprints on an automatic nightlight bulb the man unscrewed outside her apartment building just enough so it wouldn't turn on to prevent any witnesses from seeing him.
Her body was discovered face down in a bathtub after being strangled with a piece towel shoved down her throat and none of her valuables were taken.
Some link her death with the Black Dahlia's, saying the killer was the same person as Bauerdorf and Short had some similarities in their deaths, as well as frequenting the same places in Hollywood. However, there was insufficient evidence to ever convict anyone of the crime.
Boy in the Box
The Boy in the Box was a murder victim who was found in 1957 in wrapped up in a blanket inside of a bassinet, which was inside a cardboard box in a field near a Philadelphia country road. The boy was probably between 4 and 6 years old and had been bludgeoned to death. The box was from a JC Penny store just 15 miles away from the field where the it was found, but detectives couldn't trace down the purchasers as the store typically dealt with cash.
Neither the blanket nor the boy could provide any additional information about the death. No one could even figure out when the boy died.
In 2002, a witness stepped forward, saying her parents were the murderers of the boy. Though her story was detailed and consistent, there's no hard evidence to back it up.
The Grimes sisters
Barbara and Patricia Grimes were sisters who lived in Chicago, Illinois. They were ages 13 and 15 when they disappeared in December 1956 after leaving to watch a movie. Their bodies were found on January 10, 1957 on a rural Chicago road, frozen and naked. Several suspects were interview and investigated, but no charges were filed.

This is where she was stabbed:

The Axeman of New Orleans
The Axeman of New Orleans was a well-known serial killer who broke into several homes by breaking down his victims' doors with an axe. The murders took place between 1918 and 1919, and no evidence was ever strong enough to arrest anyone. The axeman taunted the city with his crimes, even writing letters to local newspapers in which he claimed to be a demon from hell. Twelve identified victims were found.
The Axeman would come in the night, chisel a panel out of the back door, and behead and dismember his victims in their sleep. What confused police the most was this ritual and if it was the murderer's signature or his MO.
A series of the same murders took place in Texas and Louisiana in 1911, with 49 victims being murdered. The killer left a note for police one night saying, "When He maketh the inquisition for blood, He forgetteth not the cry of the humble, human five."
A rumor was spread that perhaps the serial killer was a man named Joseph Momfre, who was eventually murdered by the widow of one of the victims. A ringleader for blackmailers in the New Orleans mob, Momfre was imprisoned in 1911 shortly after the first set of murders ended and released in 1918 just before they began again. There is little evidence thought that supports Momfre as the actual killer.
The Black Dahlia
Los Angeles's most famous murder, The Black Dahlia refers to Elizabeth Short, who was murdered in 1947. Her body was discovered in a park in Los Angeles and her death has been publicized repeatedly, mostly because of how particularly gruesome the murder was. Her body was found, nude, posed, mutilated, and sliced in half at the waist. She had been completely drained of blood and scrubbed clean.
![]()
In 2013, the case made headlines again when police did an extensive search of Dr. George Hill Hodel's house (one of the main suspects), where incriminating evidence of human body decomposition had been found before. Soil samples from the house were taken in to be tested.
A conversation was also recorded between Hodel and an unknown person when Hodel said, "Supposin' I did kill the Black Dahlia. They couldn't prove it now. They can't talk to my secretary because she's dead." The craziest part? Hodel's son, Steve Hodel, was the police officer in charge of the case and is convinced is father is the one who killed Elizabeth Short. He also believes his father killed an additional dozen women throughout the L.A. area.
Andrew and Abby Borden
On August 4, 1892 Andrew and Abby were found brutally murdered in their home with a hatchet in Fall River, Massachusetts.
Her father was found with 11 hacks in his face, his stepmother had 19 to the back of her head. Both were hacked to bloodied pulps. The first blow on both of them was so forceful that it surely killed them both immediately.

Lizzie was suspected immediately, as the town knew of the hateful rift between her and her stepmother. Additionally, during the week of the trial, Lizzie burned a dress that she claimed had paint on it, but prosecutors alleged that it was covered in blood and she burned it to cover up the murder. She was acquitted of all charges, the case was found inconclusive. She didn't even though she was treated as an outcast for the rest of her life. She died in 1927 and no other suspects were charged.
The Hall-Mills Murder
The bodies of Reverend Edward Wheeler Hall and Eleanor Mills were discovered in 1922 in New Jersey under a crab apple tree. Their bodies were carefully posed, laying side by side with their feet point towards the tree. Hall had died from a single shot to the head, but Mills had been shot three times, with her tongue and larynx cut out, with a slash going ear to ear. Hall's hand was under Mills's neck, and Mills's hand was on his knee.
Explicit love letters the two had written to each other were found torn up and surrounding the bodies, suggesting that their love affair was the motivation for their murders. Mills was married to the church janitor and was known for being Hall's lover.
The main suspect was Hall's wife, Frances Stevens Hall, who the reverend had married for money, as she was the heiress of a family fortune.
Jane Gibson, a hog farmer who lived close to the crime scene became the star witness of the case. She said on September 14, 1922, she saw someone walking in her cornfield. She got on her horse to confront the person, who she thought was a thief, until she found a car and heard a couple arguing. She said the woman had white hair, just like Frances Steven Halls. She then yelled, "Explain these letters!" There were gunshots, screaming, and another woman's voice that yelled, "Henry!" Scared, Gibson rode off.
![]()
The crime scene was a complete disaster; people trampled all over it, pulling bark from the tree under which the bodies laid, and souvenirs were taken. It was also improperly treated by police and no autopsies were performed. Family members were named suspects and Hall’s brother-in-law’s fingerprints were identified four years later. All were acquitted of any charges.
Some believe Gibson to be the killer. Others believe that Halls was a member of the Ku Klux Klan and had broken a moral code, as some of the characteristics of the murder resembled their killing signatures.

On June 4, 2009, Carradine was found dead in his hotel room in Bangkok, where he was shooting a movie. The actor's body was found hanging in the closet with a rope tied around his neck, wrist, and genitals, in an apparent act of autoerotic asphyxiation. Following his death, two of Carradine's ex-wives, Gail Jensen and Marina Anderson, stated that Carradine did indeed have a self-bondage fetish and an overall penchant for "deviant sexual behavior." Since then, Anderson has publicly claimed that she conducted her own investigation of Carradine's death, ruling that he was murdered.

Jill Wendy Dando was an English journalist, television presenter, and newscaster who was named the 1997 BBC Personality of the Year. She was shot to death outside her home in West London in 1999. It's believed that Dando's murder was a signature of Serbian dictator Slobodan Milosevic, carried out by his hitmen. Milosevic said he had a grudge against the journalist after she made a TV appeal for the Kosovan refugees who were displaced during Milosevic's ethnic cleansing in the 1990s.

Known for: film acting, starring in West Side Story and Rebel Without a Cause.
Born Natalia Nikolaevna Zakharenko, Wood was known for her roles in West Side Story and Rebel Without a Cause, as well as high-profile relationships with many men, from Elvis Presley to Dennis Hopper. On the evening of November 28, 1981, she was on Catalina Island taking a break from filming the sci-fi film Brainstorm with her co-star, Christopher Walken, and her husband, Robert Wagner, when she and Wagner began to argue about her relationship with Walken.
The next morning, Wood's body was found along with a dinghy floating in the water. A passenger on a boat nearby claimed she heard someone yelling cries of help that evening. In the wake of Wood's death, her lawyer said, "It was not a homicide… not a suicide. It was an accident."
While many thought Wagner was the culprit, police officially declared him not a suspect in 2011. In 2013, her death certificate was mysteriously changed, from the reason of death being an "accidental drowning," to drowning caused by "undetermined factors."
Peter Ivers
Known for: Musician, host of the New Wave Theater in Los Angeles
Peter Ivers was the host of the New Wave Theater when he was found bludgeoned to death in his bed in downtown LA in 1983.
Evidence was later unearthed by the Los Angeles Police Department to reopen the investigation. Upon his death, dozens of friends went to Ivers's apartment to mourn him, though in doing so, they accidentally tampered with the evidence. A number of theories abound about the cause for his murder. Some say he was killed as the result of a robbery; others speculate that he was killed by one of the attendees of the New Wave Theater. Little headway has been made in solving the Ivers murder case.
Thelma Todd
Known for: Acting in the late 1920s and early 1930s, known as "Hot Toddy."
Thelma Todd was an actress in the late 1920s and early 1930s. She owned a café that she ran on the Roosevelt Highway (now called the Pacific Coast Highway), where she lived in the above apartment with her boyfriend at the time, Roland West. She was found dead inside a garage, behind the steering wheel of her car. At the time, some believed that she had committed suicide or accidentally killed herself while warming up her car when she got locked out of the house.
Todd had no signs of struggle on her, though she did have a broken nose. Her blood alcohol level was too high to have allowed her to climb the steps to the garage, and her sandals were too clean if she had, in fact, climbed the stairs herself.
A rumor spread that West confessed on his deathbed that he had unknowingly locked Todd in the garage. Todd's body was cremated, lending some to believe it was done to cover up her death by the corrupt District Attorney's office. Others suggest that it could have been her ex-husband or gang leader Charles "Lucky" Luciano who might have killed her, as she had had confrontations with both of them shortly before she died.
The Notorious B.I.G.
Known for: Hip hop icon
Rapper Christopher George Latore Wallace was better known by his stage names The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie, or Biggie Smalls. He became a central figure in the East Coast hip hop scene during a time when the West Coast scene was dominant in the mainstream, leading to an ongoing feud between the two groups, including with his longtime rival Tupac Shakur. After Shakur's death in 1996, Biggie became concerned about his own life. He was killed in 1997 after leaving the Soul Train Music Awards in LA when he was sitting in an SUV and another car pulled up beside him and shot him. No one was ever named a suspect in his death. He was 24 years old.

He had just attended a boxing match and a witness identified a Crips gang member, Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson, in the lobby. The witness also said that Anderson had attacked Shakur. It is speculated that the death was gang related, but sufficient evidence was never given to lead to any arrests. He was 25 years old when he died.

This list names the most famous unsolved murders in California.
27 Famous Unsolved Murders in California,
George Reeves
After the "Superman" series, Reeves had trouble finding work and was in dire financial straits due to his extravagant Hollywood lifestyle. According to the police report, between approximately 1:30 and 2:00 a.m. on June 16, 1959, Reeves reportedly shot himself in the head in the upstairs bedroom of his Los Angeles home, while his fiancée, playwright Leonore Lemmon, and friends William Bliss, writer Robert Condon, and Carol Van Ronkel were partying downstairs. The houseguests allegedly heard a single gunshot and Bliss ran into the room to find Reeves' lifeless body.
Police reports at the time said that Reeves was depressed because he wasn't earning roles. Lemmon and Mannix became suspects of the death, but no one was ever convicted or arrested.
Marilyn Monroe
Born Norma Jeane Mortenson, Monroe died in her Brentwood home on August 4, 1962, at 36-years-old. Her housekeeper and psychiatrist discovered Monroe naked in bed with an empty bottle of sleeping pills nearby. Before her death, Monroe had been hospitalized for psychiatric problems and was receiving long-term psychiatric care. Her death was ruled a probable suicide, but many believe Monroe was murdered, possibly to make sure she wouldn't talk about her liaisons with both John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert. Although rumors and speculation continue, there is no definitive answer about Monroe's death.
![]()
New evidence recently surfaced in 2014 about Monroe's last hours from the late Hollywood private detective Fred Otash, whose work documents on Monroe were recently discovered by his daughter. According to Otash, who had bugged Monroe's house, she had been sexually involved with both John F. Kennedy and his brother, Bobby, and that Monroe had commented that she "had been passed around like piece of meat."
Otash wrote, "I listened to Marilyn Monroe die." In his notes, he recorded that she had been in an heated argument with the Kennedys about being passed between them like "a piece of meat," when he then said, "she was really screaming and they were trying to quiet her down.
"She's in the bedroom and Bobby gets a pillow and muffles her on the bed to keep the neighbors from hearing. She finally quieted down and then he was looking for a way to get out of there."
Otash later discovered that Monroe had died. His notes don't contain any additional information about what he discovered at Monroe's apartment, nor were the tapes recording her encounter with the Kennedy's ever discovered. He also had a red filing cabinet that contained his most sensitive information, but was removed from his house by his lawyer after he died. The contents were never seen again.

Virginia Rappe
1920s actress Virginia Rappe was at a party at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco on Labor Day weekend 1920 with silent film star Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle. Virginia Rappe died a few days after the party from peritonitis, caused by a ruptured bladder.
Arbuckle was charged with murder for the death of Rappe in 1921. Some believed he squashed her to death with his weight while raping her at the 3-day rager. Others believe he raped her with a foreign object, causing peritonitis. According to Arbuckle, he found Rappe in his hotel room vomiting when he had gone back there to change his clothes. He cleaned her up, put her to bed, and returned to the party, assuming she was just drunk. Other party members found her in his room later, ripping her clothes off. Hotel employees were called and she got moved to another room to rest.
Knowing other people were looking after Rappe, Arbuckle returned to LA the following day. Three days later, when she showed no improvements, she was taken to a maternity hospital, which was known for performing abortions, where she died the next day of peritonitis.
After going through three trials and making headlines of the newspapers every day, Arbuckle was finally found not guilty. Additionally, the jury wrote and apology to him:
Acquittal is not enough for Roscoe Arbuckle. We feel that a great injustice has been done him. We feel also that is was our only plain duty to give him this exoneration. There was not the slightest proof adduced to connect him in any way with the commission of a crime. He was manly throughout the case and told a straightforward story on the witness stand, which we all believed. The happening at the hotel was an unfortunate affair for which Arbuckle, so the evidence shows, was in no way responsible. We wish him success and hope that the American people will take the judgement of fourteen men and women who have sat listening for thirty-one days to the evidence that Roscoe Arbuckle is entirely innocent and free from all blame.
William Desmond Taylor
Taylor was a successful silent film director, who debuted with The Awakening in 1914 and worked in Hollywood until his 1922 murder. He was found shot in the back in his home on February 2, 1922, though when he was discovered dead, an alleged "doctor" claimed he had died of natural causes.
Several suspects were listed, including two of Taylor's butlers, one of whom used a fake cockney accent and had run off with Taylor's money. Young actress Mary Miles Minter's mother became the prime suspect, as she disapproved of her teenage daughter's relationship with Taylor. Additionally, she had threatened another director before for making a pass at Minter, and Minter's nightgown and a love note from her to Taylor were found in Taylor's apartment after the murder. According to director King Vidor, Minter had insinuated that her mother was the one who murdered Taylor after she found Minter with him in his apartment. Minter also has an unpublished autobiography in which she claims her mother is the culprit. However, no arrests were ever made.

Poison isn't just for the pages of mysteries, thrillers, and crime novels. From chronic poisoning over a long period of time, to rapid poisoning that can cause instant death, many serial killers throughout history have used poison as their main weapon. This is a list of notable murderers who used poison as their modus operandi and weapon of choice.
There are many reasons why many serial killers in history have used poison to commit their murders. One of the top reasons includes collecting insurance money. Many serial killers believed that they could get away with murder since poisoning often doesn't leave much evidence. Most victims just get sick and die, making it difficult to prove the real cause of death. Many hospital workers also used poison to systematically kill their patients, giving them high doses of prescription drugs. Many serial killers used poison with the thought of nursing their victims back to health afterwards in order to gain favor and public attention.
A few serial killers who used poison were found not guilty by reason of insanity and spent the rest of their lives committed to an insane asylum. Others, however, served a life sentence, multiple life sentences, or were executed, in most cases. Some of these serial killers poisoned their families, including children, and even more committed multiple murders over many years.
Read on to find out which serial killers used poison, how many murders they were responsible for, and what happened to them once they were caught.
37 Serial Killers Who Used Poison,
Anna Marie Hahn
Also known as Arsenic Anna, German immigrant Hahn began poisoning robbing elderly men who she was working as an in-home "nurse" for in the 1930s. She was convicted after a four-week trial and sentenced to death by electric chair in December 1938, the first woman to be electrocuted in Ohio.
Arnfinn Nesset
One of the most notorious killers in Scandinavian history, Nesset worked as a nurse and as a nursing home manager in Norway. In 1983, he was convicted of poisoning at least 22 patients by using a muscle relaxer at a geriatric center where he was the director.
When he was arrested, he admitted to officials, "I've killed so many I'm unable to remember them all." Police discovered that it's possible that he killed up to 62 patients in three different institutions since 1962, though autopsies were useless by that point because tracing the drug in the victims' bodies would be nearly impossible. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison, the maximum legal amount under Norwegian law, of which he served 12 before he was released. It is believed to be living under an assumed name.
Donald Harvey
Donald Harvey claims to have murdered 87 people while he worked in various hospitals. Official estimates put the number anywhere from 37 to 57 deaths. He had many different methods of murder but frequently used poisons such as cyanide and arsenic, which were administered in food by injection or IV. He often insisted that he committed the murders out of empathy for terminally ill patients.
Harvey was apprehended in 1987 and is currently serving 28 consecutive life sentences.
George Chapman
Known as the Borough Poisoner, Chapman, a Polish immigrant, was convicted and executed after poisoning three women with arsenic, all whom married Chapman shortly after meeting him dying shortly after that. Chapman was arrested and hanged for his crimes in 1903. And while he filed insurance claims on all three of them, he received hardly any money.
Some believe Chapman to be the notorious Jack the Ripper, who viciously killed prostitutes in the fall of 1888 in London. Chapman worked as a hairdresser's assistant just a few blocks from where the first Ripper murder occurred. Additionally, one of the Ripper's victims was named Annie Chapman – the same as one of Chapman's wives and victims. However, there are several men suspected of being the infamous murderer, and evidence thus far as been inconclusive as to who was the real culprit. Whether or not Chapman was in fact Jack the Ripper, he certainly made a name for himself with murdering his three wives.
Graham Young
This notorious English serial killer poisoned several of his family members, including his stepmother (who he poisoned when he was only 14 years old), as well as 70 more victims. His poisonous secrets were discovered by his chemistry teacher when he found violent sketches of his family and several vials of poison. He was taken to an insane asylum, where he stayed for several years until doctors released him in 1971.
It was until Young found a job and several of his coworkers began dying and falling ill that he was arrested and sentenced to life in prison, where he died in 1990 in his cell. While the official cause of death was a heart attack, rumor has it that he got a taste of his own medicine.
H. H. Holmes
Famously known as America's first serial killer, Holmes opened a hotel during the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago and lured in as many as 200 victims, including his staff, hotel guests, and his lovers. He would fill guest rooms in what became known as the "Murder Castle," with gas lines to asphyxiate his victims and was in possession of numerous bottles of various poisons. Afterwards, he would make claims on their insurance policies. Holmes was hanged in 1896.
Recently, it was discovered that H. H. Holmes was probably also responsible for some of the Jack the Ripper's murders. Confirmations of these allegations are yet to be heard.
Michael Swango
A former licensed physician, Swango poisoned non-patients by putting arsenic in their food and drinks. With his patients, he administered overdoses of prescribed drugs or prescribed unnecessary and dangerous drugs.
Though he only admitted to four murders, it is estimated that he was involved in up to 60 fatal instances of poisoning. Swango is serving a life prison sentence without parole.
Oh, and what did he tell his coworkers his favorite movie was? Yep, you guessed it: Silence of the Lambs.
Nannie Doss
From 1927 to 1954, Doss murdered 11 people. Using rat poison, she killed her family members, including her first four husbands, two children, her two sisters, her mother, her grandson, and one of her nephews. She was sentenced to life in prison but did not receive the death penalty due to her gender and died in prison of leukemia in 1965.
Thomas Neill Cream
Cream was a Scottish serial killer who lived in Canada and poisoned victims in the United States, Canada, and England. He was a physician and surgeon, known for his after-hours abortion clinic and killing at least five people with chloroform and strychnine. He was convicted in 1892 and hanged for his crimes.
During this time, another murderer, Jack the Ripper, was on the loose, and Cream was one of the suspects for being the infamous killer. In fact, when the trap door released during his hanging, Cream shouted, "I am Jack..."
Stephen P. Ryder and John A. Piper, writers of an Internet biography of Cream said, "Most refute the theory on the grounds that Cream... was a prisoner, not a mutilator. It would make little sense for him to poison his (earliest) victims before 1888, then suddenly go on a murderous and vicious mutilating spree in that year, and then revert back to poisoning his women. His prison sentence adds only more fire to the arguments of skeptics."
William Palmer
The "Prince of Poisoners," Palmer was an English doctor who was publicly executed in 1855 by hanging for the murder of his friend, John Cook and is known for being one of the most notorious murderers of the 19th century. Over 30,000 people came to the prison to watch Palmer be executed.
Palmer poisoned Cook using strychnine and was also suspected of poisoning his brother, four of his own children, all of whom were infants, and his mother-in-law. He made money off their deaths, by collecting on life insurances policies, but lost almost all of it gambling on horses.
Apparently, as Palmer stepped up to the gallows and gazed down at the trapdoor and said, "Are you sure it's safe?"
You can view Palmer's diary in which he wrote about killing Cook here.

Sometimes, it's the ones you least expect. These dangerous, notorious serial killers all had perfectly normal jobs and many were considered kind, contributing citizens in their communities. But then things took a turn. Which serial killers had normal day jobs? This is a list of serial killers with normal jobs before they changed career paths and took up killing.
A serial killer is defined as someone who murders three or more victims over a relatively short interval. Though it has been said that serial killers often fail to keep jobs for long periods of time, such as Ted Bundy, who held a number of low-end jobs, some psychologists also claim that serial killers can appear to be completely normal and have high-functioning lives. John Wayne Gacy, for example, was a highly respected individual within his community, and Dennis Rader was the elected president of his church.
Though many assume that most serial killers are rooted in violent families and abusive upbringings, there are many examples of serial killers who grew up in normal families with surprisingly average childhoods. Thus, it's hard to pinpoint conclusive personality characteristics of serial killers since the motives for killing can vary anywhere from wanting to be a hero by saving victims they previously poisoned, to sick and sadistic pleasure.
Here's a list of serial killers who had surprisingly normal jobs, although some are a bit creepy. Ice cream truck driver, anyone?
Serial Killers Who Had Normal Jobs,
Andrei Chikatilo
Day jobs: literature teacher, day laborer, regional sports manager
Andrei Chikatilo was a Russian Soviet serial killer whose victim count included at least 52 women and children, whom he sexually assaulted and mutilated. He committed the murders between 1978 and 1990 before he was arrested and confessed to 56 murders. In 1992, he was tried for 53 of the killings. He was convicted, sentenced to death, and executed in 1994.
David Berkowitz
Day jobs: United States Postal Service letter sorter, Army veteran
Known as the ".44 Caliber Killer" and "Son of Sam," David Berkowitz was a New York City serial killer who was arrested in 1977 for a series of shooting attacks with a .44 caliber revolver. In more than a year, Berkowitz murdered six victims and wounded seven others while terrorizing New York City with acts of arson.
Dean Corll
Day job: Vice President of a candy factory
What's creepier than a serial killer known as the Candy Man? From 1970 to 1973, before he was murdered himself, Corll murdered at least 28 boys whom he abducted, raped, and tortured.
Dennis Nilsen
Day jobs: British Army cook, London police officer
Often described as the "British Jeffrey Dahmer," Dennis Nilsen was a serial killer in London who murdered 15 young men from 1978 to 1983 before he was arrested and charged with six counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Dennis Rader
Day job: ADT Security Services alarm installer
From 1970 to 1990, Dennis Rader, known as the BTK killer (Bind, torture, and kill) terrorized the Wichita, Kansas area until he was finally arrested and his identity was revealed in 2005. Many unsuspecting ADT clients hired the company to protect themselves from Rader, not knowing that it was he who they had just invited into their homes. Rader seemed to be an average married father of two. He is currently serving 10 life sentences in a Kansas prison.
Donald Harvey
Day jobs: various jobs in the medical profession
Donald Harvey claims to have murdered 87 people in various hospitals where he worked. He claimed, at least in the beginning, that he was committing the murders to "ease the pain" of his patients. Harvey is currently serving 28 consecutive life sentences.
Harold Shipman
Day job: doctor
Harold Shipman was found guilty of 15 murders using lethal injection and falsifying death certificates, but he may have been responsible for up to 250 murders. He was sentenced to life in prison in 2000 but hung himself in his cell. Shipman had even appeared in a documentary as an expert on mental illness.
Jeffrey Dahmer
Day jobs: Army combat medic, mixer at the Ambrosia Chocolate Factory
Between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer killed 17 men before he was sentenced to 15 consecutive life terms in 1992. Dahmer had an alcohol abuse problem that led to his Army discharge. After he was kicked out of the Army, Dahmer moved in with his grandmother in the hopes that he could clean up his act, though she later asked him to move out after discovering disturbing things in her home. Dahmer was arrested in 1991 and eventually admitted to all 17 murders. Dahmer pled "guilty but insane" to 16 counts of murder and was given 16 sentences of life imprisonment. In 1994, he was murdered in prison.
John Wayne Gacy
Day jobs: shoe store manager, Kentucky Fried Chicken manager, children's birthday party clown
Also known as the Killer Clown, John Wayne Gacy was an American serial killer who was convicted of murdering over 30 teenage boys and young men in the 1970s. He was sentenced to death and spent 14 years on death row before he was executed on May 10, 1994.
Ted Bundy
Day jobs: grocery store bagger and stocker, shoe clerk, bus boy, campaign volunteer
One of the most prolific serial killers in America, Ted Bundy murdered more than 30 women in the 1970s before he was finally apprehended on February 15, 1978. Bundy was executed at the Florida State Prison on January 24th, 1989.

In many states, the death penalty is handed down for the most serious crimes, such as murder. This is a list of people who were exonerated after serving time on death row, having been convicted of crimes they didn't commit and given the death penalty. Though this is a list of people who were proven innocent before they were executed, there are hundreds more people in the United States who were proven not guilty of their crimes, and some who have been put to death, before their innocence was discovered.
Many people are wrongfully convicted of crimes due to lack of forensic evidence to conclude that they did not commit the crime. Unfortunately, the justice system is flawed. Though the jury is trained to make decisions on the notion of "beyond all reasonable doubt," sometimes human error can be a costly mistake and send innocent people to prison, and even death row, for many years. Sometimes, a witness even misidentifies the suspect.
Today, advancements in forensic science have helped DNA testing exonerate many convicted murders and release them from prison. Thanks to the tireless work of many organizations, such as the Innocence Project, many previously convicted felons are now receiving the justice they deserve. Which death row inmates have been proved innocent before they were executed? Read through the list below to find out.
30 Innocent People Who Were Almost Executed,
Juan Roberto Melendez-Colon
Melendez was wrongfully convicted of murder and spent more than 17 years on death row in Florida before new evidence entitled him to a new trial. The state of Florida declined to prosecute Melendez for a second time, as many of their key witnesses had either recanted their testimony, or had died. Today, Melendez is a public speaker and human rights activist living in New Mexico.
Kirk Bloodsworth
Bloodsworth was convicted of the murder and rape of a nine-year-old girl in 1985, for which he served eight years in a Maryland prison and two years on death row. Bloodsworth was exonerated by DNA testing in 1993.
Randall Dale Adams
Adams was wrongfully convicted of murdering a police officer and sentenced to death. He was later released when uncovered evidence proved his innocence.
Shareef Cousin
Cousin was sentenced to death in 1996, at the age of 16, becoming one of the youngest people to be put on death row in the United States. He was convicted for the murder and robbery of a 25-year-old male in New Orleans but his sentence was eventually overturned when it was found that the detective on the case had lied in order to get an arrest warrant. He was exonerated of all charges in 1999.
Delbert Tibbs
While hitchhiking in Florida, Tibbs was stopped and questioned by police for the murder of a 27-year-old man and the rape of a 17-year-old female who survived the attack. He didn't match the description of the perpetrator so police did not arrest him.
However, he was later identified by the victim as the attacker, though he still did not match the description. He was found guilty by an all white jury. He was put on death row, but his story became a source of support in the community. Celebrities such as Joan Baez supported his innocence, and ultimately, the Florida Supreme Court overturned his conviction. He was released in 1977 and his charges were dismissed in 1982.
Damon Thibodeaux
After a forced confession, Thibodeaux was sentenced to death for the murder of a young girl. Though his details were inconsistent with the actual crime, two eyewitnesses identified him in court, leading to his conviction. This testimonies would later be thrown out after both witnesses revealed that they had seen Thibodeaux's photo in the news media. He was released in 2012, after 15 years on death row.
Anthony Porter
Porter was a death row inmate who was 50 hours away from execution for the murders of two teenagers on the south side of Chicago. In 1999, Porter's conviction was overturned following the investigation of two professors from the Northwestern University School of Law and students from the Medill School of Journalism.
Clarence Lee Brandley
While Brandley was working as a janitor at a Texas high school, he was wrongfully convicted of raping and murdering a 16-year-old student. He was held on death row for nine years before the Supreme Court freed him in 1990.
Jay C. Smith
Smith was a high school principal in Pennsylvania who was sentenced to death in 1986 for the murder of a schoolteacher and her two children in 1979. He served six years on death row until his conviction was overturned due to prosecutorial misconduct.
Levon Jones
Jones was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to death in North Carolina. The conviction was overturned after a key witness admitted to lying and Jones was released from death row after 15 years.

Crime rarely pays, but some criminals go down in history for the way they committed their crimes. If you need a spree, you're probably safer sticking to shopping, but these people opted for a crime spree instead. This list has the weirdest, craziest, most incredible, and most deadly crime sprees of all time, from the Bling Ring to a modern day Bonnie and Clyde story.
Some criminals, like the guy who tried to destroy a small town with a custom built bulldozer, committed crimes best suited for a comic book. Others just had unusual motives, like the robber who stole to feed the 120 cats he took care of. Yes, 120 cats. It seems love can bring on a good crime spree as well, with more than one couple on this list who, instead of a romantic night in, decided to hit the town for some good old fashioned law breaking.
These are the craziest crime sprees in the history of the law. Thankfully, most of these criminals ended up behind bars, keeping the public safe from their rampages. What are the biggest crime sprees of all time? Read below to find out!
The Craziest Crime Sprees of All Time,
Marvin Heemeyer
Following a zoning dispute with the town of Granby, CO, professional welder Marvin Heemeyer sought revenge. His revenge came in the form of a bulldozer that he modified with layers of concrete and steel. It took a year and a half for Heemeyer to complete work on the machine that was later nicknamed "Killdozer." On June 4, 2004, Heemeyer began his attack on the town.
During his two hour seven minute long rampage, Heemeyer destroyed 13 buildings, including the town hall and library, and caused $7 million in damage.
William Todd (Aftermath)
Todd faced 11 felony charges, including multiple counts of burglary, carjacking, and robbery. He also had warrants out for his arrest in Kentucky.
Marou Demizu (Aftermath)
For his one of a kind string of "cat" burglaries, Demizu faced 32 charges. Perhaps unsurprisingly, his crime spree was turned into a goofy animated viral video by Taiwan's infamous Next Media Animation.
William Todd
William Todd arrived in Nashville, TN on a Greyhound Bus at 3 am. and learned that the next bus out of town wasn't until noon. So, he decided to make the most of his layover and play a real life version of Grand Theft Auto.
First, he broke into a closed haunted house attraction and stole a t-shirt, taser, revolver, and shotgun. Upon exiting the haunted house, he shot at the building and then set it on fire. From there, he made his way to a bar and robbed its patrons. He also pistol whipped one and tased another.
Five minutes after leaving the bar, he carjacked a cab and spent $200 of stolen cash at a Walmart. Around 6 in the morning he headed to the downtown Hotel Indigo, where he broke into a downtown law office and spread his feces on several framed law degrees.
While still at the hotel, he decided to impersonate a female housekeeper and went door to door looking for someone to rob. Eventually, he stole $600 at gunpoint from a Canadian couple. Oh, and for some reason, Todd was crying during the entire robbery. And at some point while he was in the hotel, he took the time to shave his head bald.
By 9 am, Todd had crashed his stolen cab into the wall of a parking garage, and around 11:30 he hailed another taxi. He held the driver at knifepoint and told him to drive to the Opry Mills shopping mall. When police found Todd at noon, he was hiding on top of the mall in a water-cooling vat with water up to his nose.
Shawn Nelson (Aftermath)
After catching the tank on a concrete median of State Route 163, Nelson attempted to flee on foot, but was shot by police. he died from his injuries at a local hospital, amazingly the only fatality from his rampage. Security at the National Guard armory from which he stole the tank was significantly increased.
Shawn Nelson
On May 17, 1995, unemployed US Army veteran Shawn Nelson stole a M60A3 Patton tank from a United States National Guard Armory near San Diego. He then led police on a 23 minute slow speed pursuit through San Diego's Clairemont neighborhood, destroying cars, road signs, fire hydrants, and traffic lights in the process.
The Barefoot Bandit
Colton Harris-Moore became known as the Barefoot Bandit because he often committed robberies without any shoes on. During his two year burglary spree, Moore, a self-trained pilot, earned a lot of frequent flier miles.
First, he stole a plane in northwest Washington state and flew to the San Juan Islands. Later he stole a pistol in British Columbia. After spending some time in Idaho, he flew back to Washington and promptly stole a boat in southwestern Washington to head down to Oregon. Finally, he found his way to Indiana and made an escape to the Bahamas. A youngster on a spree, he committed all these crimes before his 20th birthday.
The Barefoot Bandit (Aftermath)
After two years on the run, Harris-Moore was captured in the Bahamas and brought back to Seattle to stand trial. He was sentenced to six and a half years in federal prison.
Marvin Heemeyer (Aftermath)
Heemeyer's rampage came to an end when the bulldozer became stuck in the basement of one of the destroyed buildings. Heemeyer than killed himself with a handgun. It took twelve hours for police to cut through the hatch to get to his body. The town was rebuilt, and the remains of the bulldozer were sent to several different scrap yards to discourage souvenir hunters.
Marou Demizu
In 2013, an unemployed Japanese man named Mamoru Demizu was arrested after he committed a string of burglaries, and a theft of jewels and cash totaling to $185,000. It sounds like your typical crime spree, until you learn Demizu's motivation: He wanted to buy mackerel and chicken for the 120 stray cats he cared for.

When most of us think of Saint Patrick's Day, a few things probably come to mind: green beer, shamrocks, parades, Boston - but you probably don't think of murder, riots, arson, or museum heists. Well that's all about to change. On this list of the wildest crimes committed on Saint Patrick's Day you'll find everything from drunken idiots climbing fire trucks to the population of a small community being arrested over the course of one weekend. We don't know what it is about this shamrock and leprechaun Irish holiday, but it sure gets folks riles up. Just kidding, we know exactly what it is that makes everyone go insane on March 17th - glorious alcohol. Whether you take it green or not, if you imbibe too much of it, you might end up on this list.
This list encapsulates every Saint Patrick's Day mistake you could possibly make: drinking under age, letting men posing as cops handcuff you and rob your museum (unless you're into that sort of thing - we won't judge!), and hitting a cop. None of those things will get you anywhere good in the middle of July, let alone on the drunkest of holidays.
So sit back, have a sip of your Shamrock Shake, eat all the marshmallows in a box of Lucky Charms, and peruse this list of some of the craziest crimes committed on St Patrick's Day. Whatever you do, don't try any of this stuff in your home town, or any town for that matter - you could end up arrested, dead, or your ugly mug could show up on this very list!
Chaotic Crimes Committed on St. Patrick's Day,
Drunk Man Gets Arrested After Mounting Fire Truck
You don't really think of Canadians as a group of people that celebrate Saint Patrick's Day. But if you need a reason to start drinking, the patron saint of booze is always there for you. He was certainly there for this gentleman who decided that he belonged on top of a fire truck. Silly Canuck, you aren't a Dalmatian!
Shamrock Shakedown in the West Village
After several hours of binge drinking, these drunken idiots wouldn't let normal, less drunken idiots enjoy their Big Macs at a McDonald's in the West Village in New York City. This St. Patty's Day, do your best to avoid all UFC style brawls that might be happening in whichever fast food establishment you prefer.

The St. Patrick's Day Gardner Museum Heist
On St. Patrick's Day 1990, two men clad in police uniforms and fake mustaches posed as if they were investigating a disturbance at the Isabella Gardner Museum in Boston, MA before handcuffing the security guards and snatching over a dozen pieces art, valued at around $300 million, in 90 minutes flat. Authorities suspected that everyone from a South American drug cartel, the Japanese underworld, and local mobsters were involved in the heist.
To this day, it's still the biggest unsolved heist in this great country's storied history. Also, it's one of the few St. Patty's Day crimes that doesn't involve an Olympic-sized swimming pool full of booze.

London, Ontario's Saint Patrick Day Riots
In 2012 an estimated 1,000 people tore the city to shreds by ripping fences apart, hurling beer bottles at police and firefighters and setting fire to a CTV news vehicle. In total, it's estimated that $100,000 worth of damage was done.

Note to Self: Avoid Hoboken
In 2011, Hoboken, NJ's annual St. Patrick's Day parade escalated to all out mayhem in a matter of hours: 34 people were arrested, another 136 were hauled off in ambulances, someone set their backyard on fire, a teenage lunatic with a knife scared people, and a man in green boxers peed in a stairwell.
Officials at the main hospital in Hoboken said they admitted 166 people, a record high for a single day at the hospital.

No Holiday Is Worth This Much Violence

If there's one thing that can be depended on to scare the bejeezus out of just about anyone, it's Satan worship. Every few years, another round of Satanic panic takes hold of housewives and youth groups, letting their minds run amok with defilements made in the name of the Prince of Darkness. When people pledge allegiance to the big red guy, they're capable of pretty much anything. Or at least they think they are. Mostly they're capable of drawing crudely rendered pentagrams and listening to heavy metal. While many satanic crimes actually turn out to be horribly overblown, there are some that are so grisly that they really give the whole pagan thing a bad name. These are some of the worst crimes ever perpetrated in the name of the devil.
We're totally sure that your cousin Peggy who babysat you all the way through grade school, and who also happens to worship Baphomet "every once in a while" is a really nice girl, but just by judging her from the people on this list, you should watch your back. You never know when she's going to try to make a goblet out of your skull thanks to a demonic possession.
When it comes to devil worship and possession, things can get very messy very fast; it's hard to tell someone that they weren't possessed when they totally believe they wore. And who are we to say that an evil deity didn't come to you in your sleep and tell you to sacrifice all the children in your village? In any case, each possessed killer on this list blamed their crimes on the devil, not that that helped them get away with the acts.
Whether or not the people on this list were telling the truth about whatever caused them to commit their crimes doesn't matter. What does matter is that they all committed some truly heinous crimes, supposedly because the devil told them to.
People Who Blamed Their Crimes on the Devil,
David Berkowitz
In 1976, the people of New York City were terrorized by a serial killer known as the "Son of Sam." For more than a year, the killer led police on a wild goose chase, leaving behind taunting notes at the crime scenes. After he was apprehended, David Berkowitz confessed to all of the shootings and claimed that he was commanded to kill by a demon who had possessed his neighbor's dog.

Ricky Kasso
You should all know this by now, but we'll say it again: don't do PCP. After reportedly stealing some PCP from Ricky "Acid King" Kasso, Gary Lauwers was led into the woods, stabbed multiple times, and had his eyes gouged out by Kasso, who demanded that Lauwers say that "he loved Satan." After the event, Kasso told some people that Satan had appeared as a black crow and ordered him to kill Lauwers. The 17 year old ended up hanging himself in his cell after being arrested.

Moises Meraz-Espinoza strangled his mother, Amelia, and then mutilated her lifeless body before skinning her, removing her organs, and cutting the body into pieces with a circular saw. Slices of skin and flesh were later found stacked in a freezer. Amelia’s head, which was found in a backpack, received some special treatment. All of her teeth were plucked out, her eyes were removed, and two upside-down crosses were carved into the bone. Moreover, the date of Amelia’s horrid death matched a day of human or animal sacrifice in the Satanic calendar.

The Curious Case of Sister Margaret Ann
Sister Margaret Ann was one day short of her 72nd birthday when she was strangled and then stabbed between 27 and 32 times. Nine of those stab wounds were in the shape of an inverted cross. The priest who led her parish, Fr. Robinson was a suspect from the start - a factor that did not prevent him from officiating at Sister Margaret Ann's funeral. The case was cold for 20 years before an unidentified woman came forward and alleged Robinson had sexually assaulted her, and forced her to participate in Satanic rituals like being placed in a coffin crawling with cockroaches, being forced to eat a human eyeball and being penetrated with a snake to consecrate her orifices to Satan.

The Mystery of Adam
In 2001, a child's torso was found floating on the river Thames. Unable to identify the body, the police nicknamed it "Adam." They also found paralyzing drugs and calabar beans, which are sometimes used for human sacrifice. What was left of Adam’s throat was slit. It is believed that his killers later drank his blood from a vessel made of Adam’s skull. The motive? Well, the investigators think the murderers - possibly a gang of human traffickers - believed that the sacrifice would bring them good luck.
Over the years, police managed to put many pieces of this puzzle together and even found a woman associated with Adam. His killers, however, still remain unpunished.

Russian Goth Murders
You know what Satan loves? Blood sacrifices. Seriously, give that guy a good sacrifice and you guys are gonna be tight. In 2008, Nikolai Ogolobyak lured four teenagers into the woods outside of Yaroslavl (this all went down in Russia, in case you hadn't caught on by now) and proceeded to stab each one of them exactly 666 times before cutting off their genitals, scalping them, and removing some of the most tender meat to cook and eat over a bonfire.

True Romance
Back in early 2002, lovebirds Manuela and Daniel Ruda (who met through a heavy metal magazine's advertisement section) stabbed their buddy Frank Haagen 66 times, beat him with hammers, drank some of his blood, and stuck the lifeless, decomposing body, which had a scalpel poking out of it and a pentagram carved on the chest, in a coffin that rested next to Manuela's bed.
Why? Because Satan wanted them to, obviously.

The Fall Rivers Cult Leader
In the '70s, The Fall Rivers Cult was lead by Carl Drew, a pimp who used Satanism to terrify the prostitutes who worked for him. He claimed to be the son of Satan himself and demanded that his orders be followed without question. Between 1979 and 1980, Drew held several rituals in the woods that involved human sacrifices. In all he murdered three women, one of whom had her head kicked off by Drew. Yikes. The Cult was finally rounded up with most of the members receiving a life sentence.

Exposed Brick Is Very Hot Right Now
In northern Bangladesh, unidentified owners of a brickfield were displeased because their bricks weren't as red as they'd like them to be - a common complaint we're sure. A fortune teller was brought in (not a good sign) and he advised the owners to sacrifice a human to ensure the desired color. The owners of the brickfield passed the instructions on to their workers, and a 26-year-old bricklayer was beheaded, his head was burned in a kiln. The police have never found the brickfield owners, but their bricks have turned a rosy shade of red.

Saint Death Is Such a Dad-Rock Band Name
Starting in 2010, the cult of Saint Death, or Santa Muerte, began to hold late night rituals during which they would slay young children over an altar. Authorities began investigating after the last victim, 10-year-old Jesus Octavio Martinez Yanez, was reported missing. If the murders weren't already unsettling, the fact that most of the arrests made in the case were members of the victim's relatives should keep you up for at least a couple of nights.

Everyone knows the age old adage "snitches get stitches," yet for some reason people still decide to tattle. Maybe they aren't as afraid of needles as we are, or maybe they just don't take the term literally. Since the dawn of time people have been ratting each other out, whether it's to get ahead at work or to get out of trouble. On this list of famous snitches we've got mob bosses, cold blooded killers, hip hop wannabes, and even a US President! After all, you don't get to the top without getting a little dirty.
While you're reading through this list of famous informants who avoided jail time by turning in their closest pals (and accomplices) take some time for self reflection and remember that even when your friends annoy you, at least they aren't mob snitches!
It's bananas to think that some of the mafia snitches and other tattletales on this list were able to get off squeaky clean after all the heinous crimes they committed, just by naming names. If we knew all it took to get some of that sweet Witness Protection business was to ice some goodfellas, we'd have started icing gangsters a long time ago. Is that the right term? Icing?
From Ronald Reagan and Walt Disney (say whaaat?) to Linda Tripp and a whole lot of mafia guys with cool nicknames, these are the biggest snitches in history.
Infamous Snitches Who Avoided Life in Prison,
Al Sharpton
In 2014, The Smoking Gun reported that Sharpton, whose classified alias was “CI-7,” was heavily involved with the FBI in the 1980s. The report claimed Sharpton’s association with the Genovese organized crime family included recording conversations and led to the arrests of several mob members such as Dominick “Baldy Dom” Canterino and soldier Federico “Fritzy” Giovanelli. "CI-7" sounds cool but "Big Greasy" might have been a better nickname.

Elia Kazan
Elia Kazan was the director of such films as On the Waterfront and East of Eden, but he remains controversial in some circles for the testimony he gave before the House Committee on Un-American Activities. In April 1952, the Committee called on Kazan, under oath, to identify Communists from his stint in the American Communist Party 16 years prior.
Kazan initially refused to provide names, but eventually named eight former colleagues who he said had been Communists. The move cost Kazan many friends within the film industry, including playwright Arthur Miller and actor Marlon Brando.

This gumba was a high-ranking member of the Sicilian mafia who became a government witness in 1989, after an unsuccessful attempt to replace the local mob boss left him marked for death. In the aftermath of his testimony, he moved to the United States and entered the Witness Protection Program. In retaliation, the Sicilian Mafia killed his mother, aunt, and sister.

Henry Hill
The ultimate Goodfella, Henry Hill, a NYC mobster who had 25 years of history with the Lucchese crime family, assisted the FBI in making 50 convictions and put away mobsters like James Burke and Paul Vario. His story was turned into the Martin Scorsese film Goodfellas and the books Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family, The Wise Guy Cookbook.

Kobe Bryant
When interrogated about his 2004 Colorado rape allegations, Kobe sold his then teammate, the hulking Shaquille O'Neal, up the river and probably ruined Shaq's marriage in the process. Bryant stated that "he should have done what Shaq does and pay his women not to say anything." He stated Shaq has paid "up to a million dollars already." Way to throw the big guy under the bus.

Ronald Reagan
Before he was the 40th president of the United States, Ronald Reagan lived out his days in Hollyweird, acting in films like Bedtime for Bonzo and Hellcats of the Navy. This is common knowledge. But did you know that as a budding politician in Hollywood's acting community after World War II, Reagan served as a confidential informant for the FBI, snitching about pro-Communist influences in the Screen Actors Guild and other Hollywood organizations? No wonder he's a conservative hero.

Sammy Gravano
Sammy the Bull led a varied life in the New York mafia underground. He began his career as a wiseguy who moved up the mob ladder until he was a confidant of famed mob boss John Gotti. Along the way he spilled enough blood to fill an Olympic sized swimming pool.
Eventually, Gravano and several members of my family became disenchanted with Gotti's lust for the media and high profile antics, feeling they brought too much heat. He testified against Gotti and other high-ranking mobsters in exchange for a reduced sentence. Since Gravano had already served four years, his sentence amounted to less than one year.

Walt Disney
There are almost as many myths and half truths about Walt Disney as there are people in line for Space Mountain on any given weekend: his frozen body is kept below Disney Land, he was a Nazi sympathizer (probably true), he was an FBI Informant, the list goes on.
According to documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, it seems that Walt Disney served as a secret FBI informant for 26 years and allowed J. Edgar Hoover access to movie and TV scripts so the agency director could suggest changes. Maybe that's why there's so much cross dressing in all those early Disney films.

Peter Chiodo
Peter Chiodo was quite a guy. An Italian from Queens, in 1987 he became a "made man" and was put in charge of collecting payments from the Ironworkers union. In May 1991, Chiodo was attacked by two men and shot 12 times. He survived the attack (largely because he weighed 500 pounds), but decided to turn state’s evidence against the mafia in return for the safety of his family.

Ralph Natale
In 1995, the dashing Ralph Natale took control of the Philadelphia crime family after John Stanfa was sentenced to life in prison. Four years later, Natale was arrested on drug charges and became the first American mafia boss to turn state's evidence.
In 2005, Ralph Natale was given a sentence of 13 years, but escaped life in prison due to his testimony. He was released in May 2011 and entered the Witness Protection Program before suing the United States Government for depriving him of proper treatment in jail. He has alleged that the government let him “willfully sink into darkness," earning him the nickname, the "Vonnegut of the Mafia."

The life of a police sketch artist is a stressful and interesting one, to say the least. His or her job is an integral part in the investigative process. These really bad police sketches take the cake as far as horrific and laughable renderings of supposedly human faces.

A vengeful egg-man and a sad looking guy with a cabbage for a head? These bad police sketches don't really look like criminals, let alone actual people.

What is it about fast food chains that make them a magnet for violent and incredibly weird crimes? Do most fast food joints happen to be in bad parts of town?
