The Most Notorious Serial Killers from Texas

Our society is at once intrigued and repulsed by serial killers. Popular TV shows like Dexter, Hannibal, and Bates Motel feed into our morbid fascination with murderous psychopaths, while at the same time, true crime stories and graphic news headlines remind us of the disturbing and terrifying realities of such crimes.

The FBI defines a "serial killer" as a person who has committed at least two murders on separate occasions. With over 2,625 documented cases, the United States has produced more serial killers than any other country. And Texas, in particular, has produced some of the most notorious.

From the Servant Girl Annihilator in the 1880s to the Candyman in the 1970s, Texas law enforcement officers have been burdened with many high-profile serial murder cases over the years. Here are the most notorious serial killers from Texas.

The Most Notorious Serial Killers from Texas, videos, all people, people, crime, killers, serial killers, True crime,

Ángel Maturino Reséndiz

Ángel Maturino Reséndiz was a Mexican serial killer who was active in the '80s and '90s in the US. After being apprehended in 1999, Reséndiz confessed to 15 murders, eight of which occurred in Texas. He became known as the "Railroad Killer" because he would train-hop across the country and commit burglary, rape, and murder near railways. On June 27, 2006, he was executed by lethal injection.

Charles Albright

During his murder spree in the early '90s, Charles Albright assaulted and shot three prostitutes in the Dallas area. He became known as the ''Eyeball Killer'' because he removed the victims' eyeballs from their corpses. In December 1991, Albright was found guilty of murdering Shirley Williams and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Dean Corll

Between 1970 and 1973, Dean Corll murdered at least 28 young men and boys in the Houston area. With the help of his two teenage accomplices, Elmer Wayne Henley and David Brooks, Corll abducted, raped, and tortured his victims before burying their bodies. He was called the "Candy Man" because he once worked at his mother's candy factory and would hand out candy to local kids. In August 1973, Corll's sadistic spree finally came to an end when Henley shot and killed him.

Genene Jones

In the 1980s, Genene Jones murdered between 11 and 46 children while working as a pediatric nurse in San Antonio and Kerrville, TX. She injected her victims with lethal doses of drugs that induced paralysis or heart failure. In 1985, Jones was sentenced to 99 years in prison for the murder of 15-month-old Chelsea McClellan; she was concurrently sentenced to 60 years in prison for the attempted murder of one-month-old Rolando Santos. Jones is serving her sentence at a women's prison in Gatesville, TX, though she is expected to be paroled in 2018.

Henry Lee Lucas

After his arrest in 1983, Henry Lee Lucas boasted that he had claimed the lives of thousands; however, the majority of his confessions are believed to be false. Only three murders can be linked to Lucas with certainty, and these include the 1960 stabbing death of his mother and the 1982 murders of 15-year-old Becky Powell and 82-year-old Kate Rich in Texas. On March 12, 2001, he died of heart failure while serving a life sentence in prison.

Joe Ball

Joe Ball was a 1930s bootlegger who is believed to have killed between two and 20 women. In Elmendorf, TX, he opened a saloon and built a pond that contained five alligators to which he fed live animals. When deputies began questioning Ball about the recent disappearances of several women, he shot himself with a pistol. Over time, Ball has become a part of Texas folklore, and many details of his life and crimes are still unknown.

Kenneth McDuff

In 1966, Kenneth McDuff and Roy Dale Green abducted and murdered a group of teenagers; the two boys were shot, while the girl was raped and then strangled with a broomstick. After serving time in prison, McDuff was paroled in 1989 and quickly resumed his killing spree, which included the murders of at least five other women. McDuff was eventually caught and convicted, and on November 18, 1998, he was executed by lethal injection.

Servant Girl Annihilator

The Servant Girl Annihilator (aka the Austin Axe Murderer) was an unidentified serial killer that terrorized Austin in the 1880s. Of his eight victims, five were African-American women employed as domestic servants. The killer's MO involved attacking his victims with an axe while they were asleep and then sexually assaulting them. Some theorists believe 19-year-old Nathan Elgin committed the murders, while others believe the Annihilator moved to London and became Jack the Ripper.

Phantom Killer

In the spring of 1946 in Texarkana, TX, the Phantom Killer murdered five people and injured three others during a 10-week period. His MO involved shooting young couples parked on secluded lovers' lanes late at night. The first couple survived the attack and described the assailant as wearing a white sack with holes cut out for his eyes. To this day, the Phantom Killer's identity is still unknown.

Johnny J. E. Meadows

Johnny Meadows was an active serial killer between 1968 and 1971 in Odessa, TX. Though his exact victim count remains unknown, he is generally believed to have abducted and killed four women. In 1972, he was sentenced to 99 years in prison for the murder of Gloria Sue Nix Green.

The 12 Most Ridiculous Costumed Criminals of All Time
Sometimes it just isn't enough to commit a crime. Sometimes you want to do it with a little panache, a little style. These people have taken the art of law breaking to a new level. Whether it is a beloved children's character committing a heinous act, or death himself drunkenly stealing cell phones naked, these are the most ridiculous costumed criminals of all time.

Who are some of the most ridiculous costumed criminals of all time? What are criminal costumes? These people on this list will hopefully give you a guide of what not to wear if you're so dumb to commit a crime.
The 12 Most Ridiculous Costumed Criminals of All Time,

Captain America Arrested with Burrito in Pants
It seems to be that whenever you mix costumes and drinking that something unfortunate is going to happen to someone.

This was the case when a costume party full of medical professionals in Florida spilled out into the streets during a pub crawl.

A group of the party goers stopped at a local eatery when a doctor dressed as Captain America decided to make a few additions to his costume. He bought a burrito, shoved it down his tights, and proceeded to ask ladies in the restaurant to touch it. When they declined, he would remove the burrito and start groping them. This, by the way, must have been one resilient burrito. I can barely get one home without it spilling everywhere.

When the police arrived on the scene they could not differentiate the various costumed people, so they had to ask all the Captain Americas to exit the building to be interviewed.

The weirdest part is that there were that many Captain Americas present. To make things worse, he was caught trying to flush a joint down the toilet.

The burrito was later found in his boot and should probably be used for scientific research. They should make a space shuttle out of whatever this kind of burritos they're serving at this place.

Man in Darth Vader Costume Robs NY Bank
"You have failed me for the last time, Mrs. Johnson, now hand over the loot."

A man dressed as Darth Vader walked away with an unspecified amount of money from a bank in Setauket, New York in 2010.

A customer even thought it might have been joke and started joking around with Darth Vader as he was robbing the bank at gunpoint, not believing that this was actually happening.

This is all there really is to this story, although it is astounding that he wasn't caught. He's described as a 6 foot 2 man wearing a Darth Vader costume and running through city streets.

The force was apparently strong with him that day, and the police force was apparently off-duty.

The Stormtrooper Groper
27-year-old Dorothy MacSwoon was accused of sexually assaulting 10 NYU students over the course of two years. This doesn't sound like that many if you're out on a groping spree, but apparently something like 62% of college students have been molested or sexually harassed in some way on the NYU campus, so the sexually charged spree got some attention.

What makes these incidents more remarkable is that she carried them out while dressed as a Stormtrooper, a neo-facist officer of the Galactic Empire as depicted in the film series, Star Wars.

Now, this isn't the first time that there has been a story of someone dressing up and fondling people, but it is unique in the fact that it was a woman doing this, and also that she apparently had a website dedicated to Stormtrooper fetish photos. A WHOLE WEBSITE, OF SEXY STORMTROOPER PHOTOS.

An entire website that has, sadly, been taken down. Luckily, though, the Internet is riddled with stuff that is no longer available to humanity. Here are some prime examples:

Let's hope there are no nearby trees around, or she's a goner.

These are the sexually predatory legs you're looking for.

She's facing up to 15 years in jail and has a $400,000 fine to pay.

Man Dressed in Breathalyzer Costume Gets a DUI

I bet the blow function goes over really well at parties (in his mind)

This one wins the most ironic award for this list.

James Miller was arrested by Ohio police on Halloween night for a DUI, while dressed as a Breathalyzer. Miller was pulled over while driving the wrong way down a one-way street. The police found an open container and a few cases of beer in the car.

I can only hope that when he was asked if he could blow into the breathalyzer, Miller responded with, "I have been trying for years."

Gumby Tries to Rob a Convenience Store
Gumby is one of those characters that really doesn't get enough play these days. That's why it's good to see that he is not forgotten. At least not by one ambitious, idiotic criminal.

A man was caught on tape trying to rob a convenience store while dressed as the lovable rubber creation from our childhoods. At first the owner thought it was a joke, but then Gumby said he had a gun. This is terrifying. Imagine someone in a Gumby costume saying they can kill you at any moment. Not only would it ruin Gumby for you in the minutes before your death, but the bullet would likely come out of some random part of Gumby's body, given that there's no room to comfortably shoot someone in a Gumby costume.

Which brings me to the best part of the story: the guy got caught up in his Gumby costume trying to draw his gun, but could not get to it, to the extent that he got twisted in his costume and decided to leave. It was at this point that it seems he had second thoughts about the crime, as he left without anything more than spare change.

It seems that Gumby should have left the crimes to the real criminal experts:

Grim Reaper Goes on a Drunken Spree
We've all had those drunken nights out with friends that end strangely in ways that leave you with an emotional cocktail of a hangover and deep, grinding, unrelenting regret. That being said, Christopher Kelly of England, took it to a whole new level.

While out with friends one night, he got seperated from the group while stumbling on the beach. He also got separated from pieces of his clothing. Feeling cold and alone, Chris found an open window into the local city hall and ventured in for warmth.

This is where things got weird. Somewhere along the way he drunkenly soiled himself and threw out the messed underwear. He then went from room to room, taking photos with a camera that he had found as well as taking a cellphone to call his friends. He then found a Grim Reaper costume in one of the rooms, which he put on before leaving the building.

Once he left the city hall, he wandered down to the police station and waited for three hours for it to open. He turned himself in while still drunk.

He faced a six month conditional discharge after he admitted to having stolen from private property, trespassing, and public inebriation.

Criminal or hero?

Cow Lady a Public Nuisance
There must be something in the water in Ohio.

Police were called to an intersection where a woman was blocking traffic, chasing children, urinating in public, and causing a general nuisance, all while dressed as a cow.

The police initially sent her home charged only with disorderly conduct, but later they were recalled to the same area after a few hours for the same lady in the cow costume blocking traffic and scaring children.

She was given a one month prison sentence. This did not happen on Halloween.

Israeli Spider-Man Jumps on Tops of Cars, Swings Webs, Disrupts Peace
As much as we don't like to admit it, there are certain criminals that we have to admire, even if they've done something absolutely idiotic to get to where they are today. And the worst thing this guy really did was disrupt the peace, escape from the hospital, and start throwing ropes/lassos at people in traffic, and then jumping on the tops of cars.

Why did he do this, you ask? Nobody knows. Not even him. He told police that after being hit by a car and being taken to the hospital, he woke up wearing the costume with absolutely no recollection of where it came from. So what did he do in his disoriented state?

He got up and fought crime as the costumed hero himself, though "fighting crime" most likely meant lashing out at cars that he, at the time, saw as his "nemeses."

The anonymous man was jumping on cars while swinging, what was described as, a homemade webline when the police got various calls to the traffic help hotline complaining about something that sounded unbelievable, until authorities showed up at the scene.

Spider-Man never gets along with the cops.

Man Dressed as Winnie the Pooh Mugs People with the Help of 3 Kids
You ever have one of those days?

You know, the type of day when you wake up cranky and the only thing that will make you feel better is to dress up like Winnie the Pooh and mug someone?

Tokyo resident, Masayuki Ishikawa, sure did. He was accused of beating and taking over 18,000 yen (roughly $235, or approximately 120 jars of hunny) from two men while dressed as the beloved storybook character.

When asked why he did it, Ishikawa stated, "I felt annoyed and wanted to terrify them."

Oh bother.

A more ridiculous fact, though, is that three kids helped him mug these people. Aged 15 to 16, they helped him terrify, assault, and rob innocent Japanese citizens. I mean, c'mon, if Winnie the Pooh asked you to help him mug someone, it's not like you wouldn't do it. You owe him.

I wonder if they made him touch his toes when they arrested him.

(Sidenote: yes, the picture you see above is an actual picture of Masayuki Ishikawa in the back of the cop car.)

Man Dressed as Hedgehog Makes Bomb Threat
Police shot a 25-year-old man in Baltimore after he showed up at a TV station claiming to strapped with a bomb. The suspect was wearing a "bomb" that was actually made out of a life vest with chocolate bars attached to it with wire. He was also wearing a hedgehog (or bear???) onesie over the contraption. When he ignored police requests, he was shot by a sniper and taken into custody.

13 Bizarre Facts About David Berkowitz, AKA The Son of Sam

Who was David Berkowitz? A serial killer better known as the Son of Sam, he was also called The .44 Caliber Killer. Born Richard David Falco, David Berkowitz terrorized New York City in the 1970s, killing six people and wounding seven more before he was caught. He targeted couples and young women with long, dark hair, a decision many link to his obsessions surrounding his absent birth mother and deceased adoptive mother, as well as his inability to meet women. About women, he said, "I didn't want to hurt them, I only wanted to kill them."

The Son of Sam is famous for believing he was controlled by his neighbor's dog, but there are many more Son of Sam facts that are less well-known today, including the fact that he is now believed to be a Christian prophet by fringe believers today. Read on for more facts about this mysterious and misunderstood serial killer.

13 Bizarre Facts About David Berkowitz, AKA The Son of Sam, creepy, other, True crime,

He Said He Was Controlled by a Spirit Living Inside His Neighbor's Dog

Among Berkowitz's many stated reasons for why he committed his crimes, one stands out - he once claimed that his neighbor's dog contained the soul of a 6,000 year old man named Sam. "He told me [to kill] through his dog, as he usually does," David wrote.

Some Christians Now Consider Him a Prophet

After his incarceration, Berkowitz became a born-again Christian - but not just any born-again Christian. He now claims that Satan and God are at war over his soul, and a group of Christian believers holds him up as proof that even the most apparently evil people can be saved. In fact, some call him an "apostle," comparing him to the Biblical Paul, who was also a murderer before being saved.

He Claimed to Be a Member of a Satanic Cult

After his arrest, Berkowitz claimed to be a member of an occult group that worshipped Satan. Other members of his supposed cult included John Carr, the owner of the "possessed" dog, and his son Michael. Berkowitz carried this idea with him into the present, telling a reporter in 1993 that, "We made a pact, maybe with the devil, but also with each other... We were going to go all the way with this thing. We’re soldiers of Satan now. I was just too far in, too loyal, too much playing the role of the soldier and trying to please people."

He Had a Very Complicated Childhood

Berkowitz's birth parents were Joseph Kleinman and Betty Broder. At the time of his birth, Broder was married to a man named Tony Falco. Falco had abandoned her and their daughter, but she never divorced him, despite having an affair with Joseph Kleinman, who was also married. Because of this, Broder listed Falco as the father on Berkowitz's birth certificate. He was later adopted by Nathan and Pearl Berkowitz.

He Targeted Young Women with Long, Dark Hair

For reasons that are still not completely understood, Berkowitz targeted young women in their 20s that had long, dark hair. This might have something to do with his only known sexual encounter - with a Korean prostitute who gave him VD. After his victim profile made the news, many women in the New York City area cut their hair and dyed it other colors in order to ensure their safety.

Berkowitz later said, "I was literally singing to myself on my way home, after the killing. The tension, the desire to kill a woman had built up in such explosive proportions that when I finally pulled the trigger, all the pressures, all the tensions, all the hatred, had just vanished, dissipated, but only for a short time."

It Was Once Believed That He Had Schizophrenia

After a several psychiatrists analyzed a letter than he had left near his victims, they believed that Berkowitz had paranoid schizophrenia. Parts of the letter (including lines like "When father Sam gets drunk he gets mean. He beats our family. Sometimes he ties me up to the back of the house. Other times he locks me in the garage. Sam loves to drink blood. 'Go out and kills' commands father Sam") led them to think that he suffered from delusions. However, Berkowitz underwent a thorough mental evaluation after his arrest, and was found mentally fit.

He Also Targeted Couples in Cars

Berkowitz targeted couples in cars. He once stated that, "The girls call me ugly and they bother me the most." It is believed that he was jealous of the couples, since he had a hard time attracting and dating women. He targeted three different couples during his killing spree; in most cases, wounding one and injuring the other.

He Once Claimed the Hall and Oates Song "Rich Girl" Motivated Him to Kill

Although the Hall and Oates album containing the song "Rich Girl" didn't come out until roughly a month after Berkowitz started killing, he still claimed to be influenced by the lyrics.

He Left Handwritten Notes for Police Near His Victims' Bodies

After killing Alexander Esau and Valentina Suriani on April 16, 1977, Berkowitz left a letter near their bodies. It was addressed to "Captain Joe Borelli of Operation Omega"and in it, he claimed to be "the Son of Sam." This new moniker stuck with him as Berkowitz continued his killing spree.

He Set Over 1,400 Fires in NYC Before He Turned to Murder

Berkowitz started out his criminal career as an arsonist. He set a reported 1,488 fires in New York City and dutifully recorded each one in his journal - all before he ever killed his first victim.

12 Terrifying Truck Driver Killers Who Committed Murder While on the Road

You're on the highway when you catch a glimpse of a Mack truck approaching your car from behind. Its metallic grill shines in the sun, blinding you for an instant as the truck switches lanes to pull up next to you.

In the front of the truck is a driver. He appears normal. Trailing behind is the bed of the truck, full of secrets. A majority of the time the thing in the back of the truck is just an item on its way to a warehouse. But sometimes it is something more sinister. Sometimes the person behind the wheel is a monster.

Truck drivers have the perfect job for serial killing. The FBI has concluded the profession is convenient for aspiring serial killers to pick up unsuspecting victims and discard them along the road in another state miles away.

While a life on the road makes many killer truckers hard to find, there have been several convicted serial killers got caught committing murders on their dream jobs. Here is a list of some of the creepiest truck driver crimes to have occurred on the open road.

12 Terrifying Truck Driver Killers Who Committed Murder While on the Road,

Keith Hunter Jesperson

Keith Jesperson was a Canadian truck driver who raped and killed prostitutes across the highways of the United States and Canada between 1990 and 1995. When his killings didn’t receive much attention from the media, the trucker began taunting them by leaving notes with smiling faces in truck stops near the crime scenes. The acts garnered the murderer the nickname “The Happy Face Killer.”

Jesperson’s killing ended in 1995 after he murdered his girlfriend. He was convicted for the deaths of eight women, but he confessed to killing over 160.

Wayne Adam Ford

In November 1998, long haul trucker Wayne Adam Ford calmly walked into the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office in Eureka, California, and presented them with a woman’s severed breast. He shocked authorities even further when he confessed to murdering four women between 1997 and 1998, possibly more.

Ford often picked up young, white hitchhikers during his truck routes. He would rape and kill them in his truck, then keep their bodies for several days before disposing of them. He confessed to his crimes because God told him to do so. He was arrested and sentenced to death for the murders.

Joe Metheny

Metheny was an obese, 6-foot-tall serial killer with an appetite for human flesh. In 1995, he killed two prostitutes, dismembered their bodies, and stored their body parts in his freezer. Following his eventual arrest, he claimed he used human flesh mixed in with hamburger meat and sold it to customers as his hamburger stand.

Previously, Metheny worked as a truck driver in 1994, which is where the desire to kill and consume people first came to his mind. It was during this time that his wife left him, taking along their son, and setting off the rage-filled monster within him.

Bruce Mendenhall

Accused serial killer and truck driver Bruce Mendenhall was arrested in June 2007 for the murder of Sara Hulbert in Tennessee. He was charged with killing three other women at truck stops in Alabama, Indiana, and Tennessee.

Mendenhall was first suspected by police when his rig and trailer were seen by a witness near the location where Hulbert’s body was discovered. When authorities caught up to him, they found blood inside the truck. The trucker soon confessed to killing at least five other women, all at truck stop locations.

The murderer also previously ran for mayor in Illinois. Thankfully, he lost.

Adam Leroy Lane

Adam Leroy Lane was a long-haul trucker who wanted to hunt humans. Inside his truck sat a DVD - Hunting Humans - which inspired and instructed him how to live out his dark fantasies of overpowering and killing a person. His job as a trucker helped him find victims close to the highway, allowing him to slip in and out of states conveniently.

In July 2007, he came upon Darlene Ewalt in the backyard of her Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, home. He stabbed her to death while her family was inside the house. Next, Lane attacked a woman in York County, Pennsylvania, but she survived. After that, he traveled to New Jersey and killed Monica Massaro.

Initially, police found it difficult to connect the crimes due to the different locations. However, on July 30, 2007, Lane made the mistake of attacking a 15-year-old-girl in her bedroom as her parents slept in the next room. The girl’s father came upon the killer trying to kill his daughter and was able to subdue him. He was arrested by police in Chelmsford, MA, and with the help of DNA and a confession, they were able to connect Lane to the three other crimes.

The Vampire Trucker

Timothy Jay Vageades was a Minnesota truck driver who kidnapped young women and kept them in a torture room inside his truck, which he called the Twilight Express. He wore fangs, and forced his victims to wear fake fangs as well, before drilling their teeth down into actual fangs.

He was arrested during a routine truck stop inspection when inspectors learned that Vageades's passenger had a protection order against him. As it turns out, he kidnapped the 19-year-old girl - a relative - and kept her in his truck for six months.

James Robert Cruz

James Robert Cruz seemed like a typical family man, working hard as a truck driver to support his wife and daughter. Little did his family know, Cruz had a dark secret: he was a murderer. In 1997, Cruz picked up 17-year-old runaway Dawn Birnbaum, strangled her, and discarded her body near a truck stop in Pennsylvania.

Police were able to connect Cruz to the murder by looking at his truck route. He was in the area at the time Birnham went missing, and her DNA was discovered in his car.  Cruz was sentenced to life in prison for the teen’s murder. He denied killing her.

The Redhead Killer

Between 1978 and 1992, women were murdered in areas like Tennessee, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. The killer remains unknown, but it is known he had a particular type of victim: redheaded women.

At least six women with reddish hair were found dead along the side of highways in the United States, and many are suspected of being hitchhikers or prostitutes at the time of their deaths.

Due to the varied locations where the victims were found, authorities suspect the killer to be a truck driver. However, they have no evidence to confirm their theories at this time.

Edward Surratt

Between 1977 and 1978, over two dozen individuals were carelessly murdered along the highways of Pennsylvania and Ohio. Long haul trucker Edward Surratt would break into homes belonging to couples, and immediately kill the male with a shotgun. He would then kidnap the female, rape her, and then kill her, too.

He was arrested in 1978 for raping a mother and daughter in front of their bound husband and father; however, police long suspected him of a total of 18 murders. In 2007, he finally confessed to six unsolved slayings that had plagued the Ohio area for 30 years.

Robert Ben Rhoades

Robert Ben Rhoades prowled the roads of Texas and Illinois, picking up hitchhikers and murdering them in his long haul truck between 1975 and 1990. The killer turned the cab of his truck into a torture chamber where he inflicted pain on his unsuspecting victims.

Rhoades most infamous case was the kidnapping and murder of 14-year-old Regina Kay Walters. The driver picked her up with her boyfriend in Texas and held her in captivity for several days after killing her boyfriend. Before ending her life, Rhoades took an eerie photo of the frightened Regina in a barn where her body was later found.

Rhoades was arrested in 1990 and convicted for three murders; however, police suspect he may have been involved in up to 50.

People Who Married Serial Killers After Their Convictions

Have you ever heard of hybristophilia? It's a psychological condition where someone is aroused by the idea of someone else committing a terrible act, including murder, rape, and robbery. While sitting behind bars - or glass, these days - Ted Bundy, Richard Ramirez, both Menendez brothers, and several members of the Manson family managed to find Read on to find a number of people who may suffer from hybristophilia, because they all chose to marry people who had committed and been convicted of horrifying violent crimes. Or maybe they just liked to feel needed? By captive partners who could neither cheat nor do the dreaded "pop-in"? These ladies (and one man) engaged in prison marriages with psychotic murderers, most of whom were sentenced to be incarcerated for the rest of their lives.

While it may seem insane to most people, believe it or not, there are people who are attracted to murderers. Many of these people get married to serial killers even after their convictions - though in some cases, they continue to believe their partner is innocent even when the evidence suggests otherwise.

People Who Married Serial Killers After Their Convictions, videos, all people, people, killers, serial killers, other, True crime,

Doreen Lioy

Richard Ramirez was the famous "Night Stalker" serial killer and rapist, who terrorized the Los Angeles and San Francisco area from 1984 to 1985. Ramirez received hundreds of letters from women in prison, including more than 75 from Doreen Lioy.

Ramirez proposed to Lioy in 1988, and the two were married eight years later, in San Quentin Prison. Lioy insists that her husband is innocent.

"He's kind, he's funny, he's charming," she said. "I think he's really a great person. He's my best friend; he's my buddy."

Carole Anne Boone

Notorious serial killer Ted Bundy was famous for killing more than 30 women. He was also known for being extremely handsome and charming. Perhaps that's why a former coworker of Bundy's, Carole Ann Boone, married the murderer after he famously proposed to her in court. (In fact, Bundy married her right then and there, using a bizarre loophole in Florida law stating that just a declaration of marriage in the presence of a judge constitutes a legal marriage.)

Boone would later give birth to Bundy's daughter, even though conjugal visits weren't allowed in his Florida prison.

Asha Bandele Married Zayd Rashid

Zayd Rashid killed a woman during a botched robbery in New York. While imprisoned, Rashid read poetry at a class his future wife, former Essence Editor-at-large Asha Bandele, was taking. Bandele would later write a book detailing their romance called A Prisoner's Wife.

Tammi Ruth Saccoman Married Erik Menendez

The younger of the Menendez Brothers, who killed their own parents for financial gain, Erik Menendez married Tammi Ruth Saccoman in the waiting room of Folsom State Prison.

Tammi Menendez described the marriage as"something that I've dreamed about for a long time. And it's just something very special that I never thought that I would ever have."

Erik is not allowed conjugal visits, and Tammi has said, "Not having sex in my life is difficult, but it's not a problem for me. I have to be physically detached, and I'm emotionally attached to Erik."

Tammi and her daughter Talia drive 150 miles every weekend to visit Erik. Talia calls her stepfather "Earth Dad," in contrast to her deceased biological father.

Tammi published a bookThey Said We'd Never Make It - My Life With Erik Menendezcovering her relationship with Erik.

Shirlee Joyce Book Married Kenneth Bianchi

One half of the Hillside Stranglers, who claimed the lives of 10 women in the late 1970s, Kenneth Bianchi would go on to marry Shirlee Joyce Book, a pen pal, via phone call while he was imprisoned in 1989.

James Whitehouse Married Susan Atkins

Susan Atkins is another infamous member of the Manson Family. She was convicted for eight of the nine murders committed by the group.

Atkins would go on to marry twice while imprisoned. First she married Donald Lee Laisure in 1981 - after Donald had previously been married 35 times. The two divorced after he planned to marry yet another woman.

Then Atkins married James Whitehouse in 1987. He was a Harvard Law graduate who was 15 years younger than she.

Kristin Joan Svege Married Tex Watson

Tex Watson was a member of the Manson Family, who together murdered five people, most notably actress Sharon Tate. After converting to Christianity in 1975 and publishing the book Will You Die For Me? in 1978, Watson married Kristin Joan Svege in 1979.

Together through conjugal visits, they had four children. The couple divorced in 2003 after being married for 24 years, though the two remain friends.

Afton Elaine Burton Planned to Marry Charles Manson

Charles Manson was the leader of the Manson Family, a group of young people who famously killed nine people in Los Angeles over the course of five weeks during the summer of 1969, though Manson was never convicted of killing anyone personally.

Manson intended to marry Afton Elaine "Star" Buron, who was 53 years his junior, but their wedding was called off after it was discovered that Burton was attempting to make money from Manson by allegedly planning to display his corpse in LA once he'd died.

Rosalie Martinez Married Oscar Bolin

Oscar Bolin was a carnival worker who killed three women in Florida and was executed in 2016. He was famously married to Rosalie Martinez, who was a member of his own legal defense team, while he was on death row in 1996.

Martinez left her husband, also a lawyer, to marry Bolin. Martinez said she made the dramatic move in part to demonstrate Bolin's innocence.

Martinez never stopped believing in that innocence. The two remained married until his execution in Florida in January 2016.

Anna Eriksson Married Lyle Menendez

One half of the infamous Menendez Brothers, who killed their own parents for financial gain, older brother Lyle Menendez married his prison pen pal and former model Anna Eriksson on July 2, 1996. The two were subsequently divorced on April 1, 2001, after Eriksson discovered that Menendez was cheating on her by writing to another woman.

Two years later, Menendez remarried, this time to his long-time friend Rebeccea Snead, at a ceremony in the maximum security visiting area of Mule Creek State Prison.

The Most Twisted Things Jeffrey Dahmer Did to His Victims

Jeffrey Dahmer wasn't just one of the country's most notorious serial killers - he was one who used truly creative and horrifying ways to torture, kill, and dispose of his victims, from eating their body parts to trying to make them into "zombies" by injecting drugs directly into their brains. According to Dahmer, he was motivated by a desire to take total possession of men whom he found physically attractive, whether by photo-documenting their dead bodies or by storing their parts in this refrigerator.

The Most Twisted Things Jeffrey Dahmer Did to His Victims, creepy, other, True crime,

He Tried to Rip Out Steven Tuomi’s Heart

Steven Tuomi was Dahmer’s second victim. He was killed at the Ambassador Hotel and then placed in a trunk. Before this happened, Dahmer tore into Tuomi’s chest and tried to remove his heart with his bare hands.  Dahmer took Tuomi’s body back to his grandmother’s house, where he proceeded to cut him up and throw his body parts away. Unlike Dahmer’s other victims, Tuomi’s remains were never found.

He Painted Raymond Smith’s Skull Gray and Then Stored It in His Refrigerator

Raymond Smith was Dahmer’s seventh victim. Smith was picked up in a bar named Club 219, when the victim accepted Dahmer’s offer of posing for a few pictures in order to make some quick cash. Instead, Dahmer drugged, strangled, and then dismembered him. After the flesh was removed from Smith’s skull, Dahmer painted it gray and then placed it on a shelf in his fridge.

According to Dahmer, “The only motive that there ever was was to completely control a person; a person I found physically attractive. And keep them with me as long as possible, even if it meant just keeping a part of them.”

He Placed Ernest Miller’s Biceps in His Freezer

Ernest Miller met Dahmer in front of a bookstore, and accepted his offer of money in exchange for sex. Instead, Miller was drugged, following Dahmer’s usual modus operandi. However, Miller wasn’t strangled - Dahmer slit his throat, took pictures of his body, and then cut him into pieces. Miller’s biceps wound up in the freezer, while his skin was dissolved in acid and his bones bleached.

According to Dahmer,

the Soilex removes all the flesh, turns it into a jelly-like substance and it just rinses off. Then I laid the bones in a light bleach solution, left them there for a day and spread them out on either newspaper or cloth and let them dry for about a week in the bedroom.

He Kept Oliver Lacy’s Heart in His Refrigerator

Oliver Lacy was Dahmer’s second-to-last victim. Like the others, he was drugged and strangled, then dismembered and placed in a vat of acid. However, Dahmer kept his heart, placing it on a shelf in his refrigerator. Shortly after this, Dahmer was caught by the police. During his confession, he told them that he put it there “to eat later.”

He Befriended Tony Hughes Before Killing Him

According to reports, Tony Hughes and Dahmer were friends for about two years before Dahmer killed him. He lured Hughes to his house by writing him a letter (Hughes could not hear or speak) offering him $50 in exchange for nude pictures. Hughes showed up to pose, only to be drugged, strangled, and dismembered. His skull was stored in Dahmer’s apartment.

He Strangled Joseph Bradehoft with a Strap

Joseph Bradehoft was Dahmer’s last murder victim. He picked up Bradehoft at a bus stop, where he offered the usual exchange of sex and nude pictures for money. Bradehoft was then drugged, strangled with a strap, and chopped into pieces which were then dissolved in acid. His skull was found in Dahmer’s freezer with the others.

He Crushed Steven Hicks’s Bones with a Sledgehammer

Steven Hicks has the honor of being Dahmer’s very first victim. Dahmer was right out of high school when he picked up Hicks, a hitchhiker. Dahmer took Hicks to his home, where he got him drunk and then hit Hicks with a barbell before strangling him to death. He buried Hicks’s dismembered remains in the backyard, and then later on, dug them up, skinned them, smashed his bones to bits, and spread them throughout a ravine.

He Took Pictures While He Cut Jeremiah Weinberger’s Body Into Small Pieces

Dahmer met Jeremiah Weinberger at a club on Well Street in Milwaukee. He lured Weinberger home, spent an entire day with him, and then knocked him out with a drugged drink. Then Dahmer strangled the man who became his 15th victim and photographed the process of dismembering him. As with many other victims, Weinberger’s skull wound up in Dahmer’s freezer.

During his trial, Dahmer stated

I was completely swept along with my own compulsion. I don't know how else to put it. It didn't satisfy me completely, so maybe I was thinking, "Maybe another one will. Maybe this one will." And the numbers started growing and growing and just got out of control, as you can see.

He Experimented on Konerak Sinthasomphone While He Was Still Alive

Konerak Sinthasomphone was a 14-year-old that Dahmer drugged in his apartment. However, rather than strangle the boy, as he did his other victims, Dahmer instead drilled a hole in the back of his head, injected hydrochloric acid into the front sections of his brain, and performed other horrifying experiments, all while trying to create a sex zombie who would do his bidding. When this didn’t work, Dahmer dismembered him and stored his body parts in acid.

He Melted James Doxater’s Flesh with Acid

James Doxater, Dahmer’s third victim, was only 14 years old when the serial killer picked him up on a street corner. Doxater was drugged, then strangled. By this time, Dahmer was honing his body disposal methods, so Doxater receives the morbid prize of being the first to have the flesh melted from his bones as his body sat in a vat of acid. His bones were later smashed and scattered, much like Tuomi’s.

10 Serial Killers Who Abused Animals First

List of serial killers who have abused animals. Often when people try to discover what makes an unrepentant serial killer tick, they look at their childhoods. Were there any indications that they could turn into murderers? One of the biggest indications that a person is destined to be a disturbed individual is seeing whether or not they torture of animals. Psychologists point to animal abuse as proof of a lack of empathy and propensity towards violence. While there isn’t any hard data claiming the percentage of serial killers who began their career of pain by hurting animals, many believe that this is a serious warning sign.

Many serial killers have admitted that torturing animals was their first time they realized that they liked to hurt people. The FBI

List of the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted Fugitives. The FBI’s infamous list began in 1949 when the director of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover tried to find a way to help capture the most dangerous wanted criminals. The list has lead to the capture of hundreds of fugitives, even reaching 500 fugitives in 2013. The Most Wanted List is posted in public places, such as the post office, and online to create awareness for the general public. The FBI also had a list of the Most Wanted Terrorists.

15 Convicted Killers Who Married in Prison

List of convicted killers who were married while in prison. While many people are fascinated with killers and what makes them tick, not many people ever go that extra mile to get to know them. A person who reads about a killer as if it were an interesting novel is not necessarily going out of their way to meet them. That’s what makes prison wives so captivating. What makes an ordinary woman, with thousands of potential suitors not behind bars, decide to marry a convicted killer? Why do they want a relationship with a man who has killed? What do they get out of the relationship?

Some psychologists believe that women who marry convicted killers do so because of low self-esteem and a desire to be loved by somebody dangerous. The reasons may also include a need to nurture somebody who’s damaged. Whatever the reason, prison wives don’t often follow the same logic as the rest of us. For some of these women, they’re convinced that their husband was framed. Others just think they can turn a vicious killer into someone to take home to your mother.

This list includes killers that managed to get married while in prison. Some are still married, while other wives figured out that marrying a known killer isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

22 Serial Killers Who Were Adopted

List of serial killers who were adopted. In the U.S., there have been at least 500 known serial killers. Of that select group, 16% were adopted. The number of adopted children who have turned to murder is astounding, leading some psychologists to believe that some of the feelings that come with being adopted can lead to murderous thoughts. In fact, adopted men and women are 15 times more likely to kill their parents. Is there a link between being adopted and murder? If so, what are the circumstances that make an adopted child want to kill?

Joel Rifkin famously tried to use his adoption as a defense in his murder trial in 1994. He claimed that he murdered 17 women because the trauma of being adopted led to his insanity. Ultimately the defense didn’t work but it started a conversation about the link between adoption and murder. Some psychologists believe that the resentment and anger from adoption could be a possible cause for murder, but no concrete link has been proven.

This list includes the serial killers that were adopted at a young age. Whether their adoptions lead to their murders is up for debate.

22 Serial Killers Who Were Adopted,

Aileen Wuornos

Ted Bundy

Ted Bundy was born in 1946 to Eleanor "Louise" Cowell, who claimed to have been seduced by a sailor named Jack Worthington. Until he was three years old, he was raised by his grandparents, Samuel and Eleanor Cowell, who he believed to be his actual parents. Bundy did not know the true circumstances of his birth until he was in his early 20s. When he was five years old, Louise married Johnny Culpepper Bundy, who formally adopted Ted later that year. Louise and Johnny had four children.

9 Serial Killers Who Suffered From Mental Illness
Psychologists have spent decades studying the brains of known serial killers in an attempt to discover what makes them tick. Are serial killers built just like the rest of us, or are their brains wired differently? What makes them become vicious, unrepentant killers?

Many serial killers suffer from anti-social personality disorder (APD), which does not usually have a clinical diagnosis. APD allows a killer to easily manipulate and charm people without the burden of empathy. However some serial killers suffer from deeper mental illness, like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or borderline personality disorder, which affect their ability to tell right from wrong.

When a serial killer is diagnosed, it makes it tough to work out whether they are fit to stand trial and face justice. Some people even believe that mentally ill serial killers should not be held responsible for their actions. For this reason, many killers go undiagnosed until after their trial (if at all). Then, the killers claim to be crazy in order to avoid the death penalty. In reality, although these murderers all are disturbed psychopaths, very few actually have a diagnosable mental illness.

This list includes famous murderers with antisocial personality disorders and paranoid schizophrenic killers. So which ones are actually insane? Find out below.
9 Serial Killers Who Suffered From Mental Illness,

Aileen Wuornos
Before Aileen Wuornos inspired the 2003 film Monster, she fatally shot seven men along Florida's highways. After she confessed, Aileen was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder by the state’s expert psychologist, Dr. Bernard. Despite that, Wuornos was sentenced to death, and eventually volunteered to receive lethal injection even after her sentence had been put on hold.

Albert Fish
In the early 1900s, Albert Fish claimed to have raped, killed, and cannibalized hundreds of children. However, only 3 victims were ever found. Fish has a long family history of mental illness, with both his siblings ending up in mental hospitals. At one point, Fish's psychiatrist called him a psychiatric phenomenon for all his disorders. Fish claimed God told him to kill the children, but his insanity plea was still rejected and he was executed in 1936.
David Berkowitz
David Berkowitz (aka the Son of Sam) was responsible for a crime spree from 1976-1977 that saw him take the lives of 6 people. After he was caught, Berkowitz claimed that his neighbor's dog told him to kill. He was later diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
Ed Gein
Ed Gein was the inspiration for some of the scariest fictional killers, including Norman Bates and Leatherface. After being charged with the murder and mutilation of multiple victims, he was deemed unfit for trial and diagnosed with schizophrenia. Ten years later, he faced trial and was found guilty, but spent the rest of his days in a mental hospital.
Jeffrey Dahmer
Jeffrey Dahmer was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. However, he was still found competent to stand trial for his 17 murders. He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison, but ended up being murdered by a fellow inmate.
Kenneth Bianchi
During his trial for the rape and murder of 12 women, Kenneth Bianchi plead insanity, claiming he had multiple personalities. The prosecution's psychiatrist had doubts and even tricked Bianchi into creating a third personality. Bianchi was sentenced to life in prison.
Kristen Gilbert
Massachusetts nurse Kristen H. Gilbert killed four patients at the Northampton VA hospital where she worked in order to gain the attention of a VA police office with whom she'd being having an affair. Before the murders, she had been a patient at psychiatric hospitals in the area, and was eventually diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. She was sentenced to life in prison.

Richard Chase
Richard Chase killed 6 people in Northern California and famously drank their blood, leading to his nickname, "The Vampire of Sacramento." Before his first murder, Chase was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was institutionalized for a year. Despite his condition, Chase was not able to use an insanity plea in his case. He killed himself in prison.
David Gonzalez
David Gonzalez killed 4 people in 2009 and claimed he was inspired by Nightmare on Elm Street. He had previously been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, but wasn't properly treated.

6 Serial Killers Who Were Sexually Abused

List of serial killers who were sexually abused. When a person is revealed to be a serial killer, many people like to delve into their childhoods to see just what went wrong. What happened in their formative years that could have affected their minds? Were their bad childhoods linked to their crimes? These types of questions sometimes lead to revelations about negative childhood experiences that these serial killers faced. Sometimes, violent perpetrators experienced violent crimes from an early age. Serial killers who have sexual components to their murders sometimes dealt with sexual abuse in their childhood.

The serial killers on this list have admitted to being sexually abused in their past. 6 Serial Killers Who Wore Disguises

List of serial killers who wore disguises, either during their crimes or afterwards. It’s not a very common occurrence for serial killers to wear masks, wigs, or any other types of disguises while committing their heinous crimes. Most serial killers already blend in with the general public. They often look just like your neighbor, your best friend, your parents, or any other person you might run into and not think about for another second. If a serial killer has decided to prey on a person, they usually don’t mind if their face is seen since that person is likely not long for this world. That’s why it’s all the more fascinating when a serial killer wears a disguise.

Serial killers who wear wigs, masks, and other cloaks for their identity often do so because of a psychological reason. Killers like Ed Gein made masks out of human flesh due to an insane part of the brain that commanded it. Other killers may have worn costumes for the thrill, as part of their killer routine.

Which serial killers have worn disguises? This list features the killers who have worn anything from a wig to a dress during or after theircrimes.

6 Serial Killers Who Wore Disguises,

Zodiac Killer
Not much is known about the Zodiac Killer, but it is often believed that he wore a mask while killing his at least 5 victims. Since there is no definitive proof of the Zodiac Killer's identity, the rumors of his mask could be just rumors.

30 Serial Killers Who Were Never Caught

List of serial killers who were never caught in their lifetime. It’s comforting to know that most serial killers get caught and put behind bars to pay for their crimes. Families of the victims get some sort of peace knowing that justice has been served, while locals get the relief of knowing that a dangerous person has been taken off the streets. Unfortunately, not all serial killers are apprehended. Throughout history, a few serial killers have escaped the grasps of law enforcement, due to their cunning and ability to stay under the radar.

Many of the unsolved serial killer crimes became huge mysteries in human history, from the elusive Zodiac Killer to the menacing Jack the Ripper, with no definitive suspects attached to the crimes. Other serial killers got away with the crimes until after their deaths, when their names were attached to the crimes nobody knew they committed in their lifetime. Some of these are serial killers on the loose, currently under investigation.

Which serial killers managed to never get caught? The killers on this list are mostly known by their media-given nicknames due to their elusive nature. Whether they will ever be discovered is still a mystery.

It was widely believed the the Ripper was likely a doctor.
Stoneman
In 1989, Calcutta, India, saw the murders of at least 13 people by a killer that was named the Stoneman by the media. Most of the victims were homeless beggars and were bludgeoned to death. Over the years, other incidents have popped up and were suspected to be the result of the same killer.

In a terrifying period between 1972 to 1974, five black children were murdered and mutilated in Manhattan. No one was ever sentenced, but one suspect, Erno Soto, confessed to one of the murders. Unfortunately, he was considered unfit to stand trial and committed to a psychiatric hospital.

The All-Time Most Surprising Acquittals
While few not guilty verdicts will be remembered more than the one issued in the OJ Simpson murder trial, the most surprising acquittals include celebrities, mothers, athletes, singers, and disgruntled housewives who have escaped charges when nearly everyone thought they were dead guilty. From the child molestation charges against Michael Jackson to the child murder claims against Casey Anthony, to the infamous case against penis-chopper Lorena Bobbitt, each of these cases, many among the most famous trials, provide plenty of shock and awe, not to mention media coverage, as they played out.

Though these famous black criminals, white criminals, and others have escaped their charges in these famous criminal acquittals, an equally notable number have been found guilty, such as the top 8 professional athletes convicted of murder and the many rappers who've spent time in prison for one reason or another.

Take a look at this list of people acquitted of murder, and other crimes, and vote up the most shocking acquittal of them all, in these cases where people "got away with it."
The All-Time Most Surprising Acquittals,

Michael Jackson
Nearly 10 years after settling a civil suit for child molestation, King of Pop Michael Jackson was arrested on the same claims in 2003. A 13-year-old boy, Gavin Arvizo, claimed Jackson molested him, forced him to drink alcohol, and held him captive at his Neverland Ranch. However, the jury found the singer not guilty of all charges. Following the acquittal, Jackson retreated to Saudi Arabia for several years after the criminal trial. He later returned to the public eye and planned a grand comeback tour. Jackson died in 2009 before the tour could begin.
Oscar Pistorius
9/11/2014-- After a marathon trial filled with vomit, screams and tears, South African sprint runner Oscar Pistorius was cleared of all murder charges for the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. The court has not yet announced if he will be charged for the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.

Since his trial opened in March of 2014, Pistorius, 27, a double amputee popularly known as the "blade runner", has faced accusations that he deliberately took the life of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, 29, when he fired into a locked bathroom door at his villa in Pretoria, the South African capital, on Feb. 14, 2013. Mr. Pistorius has insisted that he killed Ms. Steenkamp, who was in the bathroom, by mistake, believing that an intruder had entered his home.

O. J. Simpson
Accused of murdering his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman, former NFL player OJ Simpson was acquitted of murder in the "Trial of the Century" in 1995. Simpson was widely believed to be guilty, especially after leading police on a low-speed chase in his white Ford Bronco, but his dream team of attorneys, including Robert Kardashian and Robert Shapiro, convinced the jury that the evidence to convict the athlete and actor was insufficient. In 1997, Simpson was found financially liable for the deaths in a civil trial. 10 years later, Simpson released a controversial and allegedly hypothetical book titled If I Did It.
Robert Blake
Charged with conspiracy to murder his wife Bonnie Lee Bakley, "Baretta" actor Robert Blake claimed that he had nothing to do with the 2001 shooting death of Bakley and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Though alleged hitman Ronald Hambleton testified that Blake attempted to hire him to kill Bakley, Blake was later acquitted of murder and solicitation of murder. Similar to the OJ Simpson trial, Blake was later sued in a civil court for the murder, by Bakley's three children, and found financially liable for the death.
R. Kelly
Right at the height of his career in 2002, R&B singer R. Kelly was charged with having sex with a minor and producing child pornography after a videotape surfaced of the singer having sexual relations with an underage girl. Other media, including photos of the acts with the minor, were found at Kelly's home. However, six years later when the case finally went to trial, the Grammy Award winner was found not guilty by a Chicago jury who cited a lack of evidence and the refusal of the alleged victim to testify as reasons for the acquittal.
William Kennedy Smith
Doctor, activist, and member of the Kennedy family, William Kennedy Smith was accused of rape in a highly publicized trial in 1991. After drinking with Senator Ted Kennedy at a Florida bar, the accuser stated that she went home with Smith and was raped. Smith claimed the act was consensual, a position that the jury agreed with when they acquitted him of the rape charges. His history, however, followed him, as Smith was later named in two separate civil suits claiming sexual assault.
Casey Anthony
Described as "OJ number two," the trial of Casey Anthony shocked and divided the United States when the Florida single mother was acquitted of murdering her two-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony in July 2011. Casey Anthony failed to report the child missing, lied to investigators, and was seemingly unbothered during the months the child was missing. Despite evidence that Anthony's trunk contained human decomposition, Anthony was found not guilty for the murder, only convicted of providing false information to law enforcement officers.
Lorena Bobbitt
Teaching men around the world not to anger women, disgruntled wife Lorena Bobbitt was charged with malicious wounding after chopping off the penis of her husband, John Wayne Bobbitt, and throwing it out of a car window on a Virginia highway. Lorena argued at her trial that John Wayne had emotionally, physically and sexually abused her during their marriage, including raping her on the night of the incident in 1993. Though she was later found guilty of a separate assault, Lorena was acquitted of the amputation by reason of insanity. As for John Wayne, his penis was later found and reattached, allowing him to star in adult films.
George Zimmerman
George Zimmerman fatally shot 17-year-old high school student Trayvon Martin on the night of February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida. George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old, was the neighborhood watch coordinator for the gated community where Martin was temporarily staying and where the shooting took place.

Following an earlier call from Zimmerman, police arrived within two minutes of a gunshot during a scuffle in which Zimmerman had fatally shot Martin. Zimmerman was taken into custody, treated for head injuries, then questioned for five hours. The police chief said that Zimmerman was released for lack of evidence and lack of legal grounds for arrest, and that Zimmerman had a right to defend himself with lethal force. However, six weeks later, amid widespread, intense, and contradictory media coverage and misleading reporting, Zimmerman was charged with murder by a special prosecutor appointed by Governor Rick Scott.

Zimmerman's trial began on June 10, 2013, in Sanford. On July 13, 2013, a jury acquitted him of second-degree murder and of manslaughter charges.
Los Angeles Police Department
Bringing the term "police brutality" into our vocabulary, four members of the Los Angeles Police Department were charged with using excessive force back in March 1991. Following a high-speed chase, Rodney King was beaten excessively by the Los Angeles officers all while a bystander videotaped the incident. Each of the officers were acquitted of charges in a 1992 trial, leading to rioting and looting in Los Angeles for over three days in disgust of the verdict.

9 Pro Athletes Convicted of Murder
Being a sports star can be murder. It can apparently also drive you to commit murder. Which athletes have been convicted of murder? Here are the eight most bloodthirsty pro-athletes who have been convicted of murder for reasons as silly as a traffic dispute all the way to murdering underworld crime bosses... which would be an awesome job title, minus the whole murder thing... It's kinda shocking that there were more than eight murderous athletes, but I kept the list for now to the most interesting sports star killers.

Pro athletes should have enough money to hire hit men if they must kill, you know? And if you are getting paid boo koo bucks to be a pro athlete, WTF are you so angry about anyhow? But these jocks aren't the brightest bulbs in professional athletics, as evidenced by their stories below. Be on the lookout for a sequel if this list of murderous athletes is a hit.
9 Pro Athletes Convicted of Murder,

Esteban de Jesús
Esteban De Jesús was a lightweight champion boxer who turned professional in 1969 and gained fame for being the first person to beat Roberto Duran as a professional. He reigned as the World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion from May 8, 1976 until 21 January 21, 1978.

After ending his boxing career with 57 wins (32 by knock-out) and 5 losses, De Jesús was convicted of murdering a 17-year-old boy after a traffic dispute over Thanksgiving weekend, 1981. So if you're ever around a boxing event and you see a parking spot, please be polite and let anyone who wants it to have it, especially if they look like they may be on coke (which De Jesús was).

While in prison, De Jesús became a star baseball player for the Puerto Rico penal system and a born-again Christian, probably because it just kinda made sense given his name. He later later became a preacher.

While in prison, De Jesús contracted HIV and was sequentiality pardoned by the then governor and was released from prison one month before dying at his home from AIDS...and it allll started with a traffic dispute.

De Jesus died at 37. Click here for the full story on him and why you should never eff with a guy bigger than you in traffic.
Leslie Hylton
Leslie Hylton was a West-Indian and Jamaican cricket player and known for the Test matches he played in the 1930's.

He was convicted and hanged for the murder of his wife, Lurlene, in 1955. Hylton claimed he was trying to shoot himself, but missed and shot her instead. A likely story, which is apparently what the jurors thought as well.
Mark Rogowski
Mark "Gator" Rogowski was a professional skateboarder in the 1980's and early 1990s who achieved a sense of fame and status, until the early '90s when skateboarding moved from the vert-style, which he was accustomed to, to street-style, which had the same kind of effect that Bob Dylan going from Folk to Rock had.

This waning of popularity and the changing of his name to "Gator," Mark Anthony (saying that his father was never a real part of his life) are seen as the triggers to his eventful downfall, marked most notably by a conversion to strict born-again Evangelicalism after a dangerous drunken accident in Germany.

During this time, Rogowski also broke-up with his long-term girlfriend, at which point he began to obsessively stalk her and her new boyfriends... aaaand then some crazy(er) s**t started happening.

On March 21, 1991, Rogowski spent the day with old-friend Jessica Bergsten who was later reported missing. Her body was eventually found in the Californian desert, although a proper identification was impossible due to the decomposed state of her body. Rogowski later pled guilty to beating Bergsten with a 'Club,' raping her, and stuffing her body in a bag and smothering her with his hand to eventually stop her breathing.

Rogowski was sentenced to 31 years in prison and is first eligible for parole this year, so any ladies out there reading this should definitely watch their online dating habits like a hawk. And clearly, anyone thinking of becoming a born-again should think twice (Gator and De Jesús twice), unless, you know, they like going to jail for murder.

Rae Carruth
Rae Carruth, ( Click Here for more gory details on Carruth) whose head is shaped like he wears a Halloween Coneheads bald cap (but we ASSURE you, this is his real head) former first-round draft pick for the Carolina Panthers, was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder against his lady Cherica Adams, who was shot four times in a drive-by shooting.

Adams, who was pregnant with Carruth's child at the time, later died at the hospital, however the baby (named Chancellor Lee Adams) survived after being delivered by cesarean section.

After the shooting, Carruth posted his $3 million bail and was allowed out under the condition that if either his child or Adams's died, that he would turn himself in (seriously, who made that deal?). After Adams's passing, Carruth became a fugitive and was justly let-go from the Panthers and was later found hiding in a car trunk in Tennessee surrounded by candy bars, jars of his own pee, and shame.

Kind of says a lot about the Panthers when you can hide one of them in a trunk. You shouldn't be able to fit one of these guys in a pick-up, let alone a trunk.

Carruth (DOC #0712822) was sentenced to 18 to 24 years in prison and his projected release date is October 22, 2018.

Robert Rozier
Robert Rozier, former member of the St. Louis Cardinals (for which he only played six games after being released on suspicion of drugs... "suspicion"... wow, THOSE were the days) later became a member of "The Brotherhood" cult led by Yahweh ben Yahweh in Miami during the 1980s.

The cult, comprised of members from an off-shoot of black supremacists from the Black Hebrew Israelite religion, believed that God is black, that true Jews are black and that whites are the 'devil.' You know, your typical peaceful religion.

Oh, except for the part where to prove one's worthiness to the cult, each member had to kill a 'white devil,' and provide proof.

Ever the overachiever, Rozier confessed to killing seven white people and was arrested and charged on October 31, 1986.

Rozier was sentenced to 22 years, but only served ten after agreeing to testify against Yahweh and was later put in the witness protection program.

However, in 1999, he was arrested in Canada (how embarrassing) for attempting to pass a bad check and was again arrested under the 'third strike' law, being sentenced to 25 years to life. Because when you're trying to stay "off the grid" the best currency to use is the one with your name, number, and address on it.

Hiroshi Ogawa
A former Lotte Marines baseball pitcher, Hiroshi Ogawa was sentenced to life in prison in September 2005 after stealing 1.75 million Yen from the chairman of an industrial waste company that he used to work for, as well as the murder of the chairman's housekeeper. Being in debt, Ogawa went inside the chairman's house and demanded that the housekeeper allow him to "borrow" the money. When she refused, he pushed her, knocking her unconscious, stole the money, and drove her to a pond, where he dumped her to drown. Lesson learned here, folks. Always lend the money.
Evangelos Goussis
Evangelos Goussis, an ex-Australian boxer and kick-boxer, is currently employed as a lawn mower... at the maximum security Acacia unit at Barwon Prison.

While his career was at its height, Goussis was the Kickboxing World Association middleweight champion and was a boxing contender for the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, though he didn't qualify. But still, that's a pretty good gig.

In 2004, Goussis was convicted and tried for two murders in Melbourne during the Melbourne gangland killings, in which he shot both Lewis Cain and Lew Moran in the head. Goussis claimed it was self defense with the Cain trial, saying Cain shot at him first, but the gun jammed. However, he shot Moran point blank in the back of the head (no claiming self defense there!). He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of a 30-year non parole period. It was probably all worth it though, right?

Aaron Hernandez
April 15, 2015: Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, 25, was found guilty of first-degree murder. He was first charged with killing his fiancé's sister's boyfriend, Odin Lloyd, 27, in 2013. According to the prosecution, Hernandez and two other men picked up Lloyd at his home, drove him to a secluded industrial park, and shot him six times. They never presented a possible motive for the murder, nor did they find a murder weapon or any witnesses, yet they were still able to convince a jury that Hernandez had orchestrated the killing. Security video from his home showed Hernandez holding a gun just a few minutes after Lloyd was killed.

The two men with Hernandez at the time, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, were also charged and will be tried separately. Hernandez's lawyers claimed he was but a witness to the crime. He was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.

Bertil Fox
The Arnold Schwarzenegger of St. Kitt, one of the easternmost islands in the Caribbean, Bertil Fox was a champion body builder, winning every major contest outside the IFBB in London before relocating to Los Angeles and finally, St. Kitt.

In September 1997, Fox was tried and convicted of killing former girlfriend, Leyoca Browne and her mother, Violet inside of Violet's clothing shop in St. Kitt. Fox pleaded that it was an accidental shooting when he struggled over his pistol with Violet. However, Fox's best friend Edmund Tross testified saying, "He said he had shot Leyoca and her mother. He said Leyoca's mother was pushing him out the door. At that point he pulled out the gun and started shooting." Tross admitted that Fox never said anything about the shooting being in self defense, and the seamstress who testified also incriminated Fox. He was sentenced to life in prison without bail.
